- Less than 1/2 pinch of asafoetida (heeng)
- 2 big tablespoons ghee (clarified butter)
- 3-4 big tablespoons green coriander chutney
- 4 papads
- 1/2-inch piece of ginger
- 1 lemon
- 4 dried red chilies
- 1-2 small teaspoons cumin powder
- 1-2 small teaspoons garam masala
- 1-2 small teaspoons black salt
- 1-2 small teaspoons chaat masala
Method:
- To make Muradabadi Dal, soak 1 cup of washed Moong Dal in water for an hour.
After an hour, transfer the dal to a pressure cooker. Add 3 cups of water, a small teaspoon of salt, and less than 1/2 pinch of asafoetida. Mix it well and close the lid of the pressure cooker.
Cook the dal until it gives one whistle. After one whistle, reduce the heat and cook for another 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, turn off the heat and let the pressure release from the cooker.
Once the pressure is released, add 1/2 cup of water to the dal and cook for 1-2 minutes until it boils.
Transfer the cooked dal to a bowl.
- To prepare the dal chaat, take a small bowl. Add a small cube of ghee, and place the hot dal over it.
- Now, sprinkle black salt, a little chaat masala, roasted cumin powder, a pinch of garam masala, finely chopped ginger, green coriander chutney, dried red chilies, fresh coriander, and a broken papad on top.
