I wanted to make Valentine's Day memorable for my kids. They only get a limited amount of time to make memories and traditions before they have to leave the nest.
I started the day giving them all treats to be able to take to their friends at school. Daddy made a separate trip to make sure the girls were given roses from their father. When I picked the kids up from school, I greeted them with treats also. It is a very sweet holiday.
It is all about making the memories. I wanted to do something fun for dinner to set the day apart. I decided to basically make spaghetti, but not spaghetti. I made a red sauce with ground turkey and got creative with items in my fridge that needed to be used and would complement the dish. I also grabbed some fun noodles for us to try.
Aged White Cheddar | Capers | Pesto |
minced garlic | italian seasoning | noodles and vodka sauce |
I cooked ground turkey in a skillet, added 2 heaping spoonfuls of pesto, a few tablespoons of capers, a jar of vodka sauce, italian seasoning, and grated a few ounces of the aged white cheddar to make the sauce. The noodles boiled while I finished off the sauce.
I wanted to set a pretty table and use some candles also. We pulled out Great-Grandma's china to use for dinner, and my hubby went and found tealight candles for me to use. It felt nice to have Great-Grandma represented at the table.
I finished dinner with slicing up some french bread and steaming some broccoli. It was all fairly easy.
We had french silk pie for dessert. Normally, I will put that together, but didn't set aside enough time for that today.
The finished product was very pretty and my boys were excited to eat in the dim light. They said it felt "fancy."
I took a pic of them all at the table, and then surprise of surprise, the stars all aligned and everyone helped with dishes after dinner.
