Fried Duck Worth the Trip - Bebek Pinggir Sawah

An eatery adjacent to the rice field has been gaining quite a bit of popularity all around. It’s like some type of longing from the good ole times for most people.

These days, almost a lot of rice fields are gone, sold to developers to build more houses. And I suppose, people younger than I do, see this kind of eatery as extremely exotic and new.

Even for myself, this type of eater is always fun itself. While often they don’t always serve its customer the best experience nor meal, it wasn’t the thing we’re looking for. It’s the view, the nostalgia and the memory of simpler times. But some places are just excellent and worthy of the actual “hidden gem” label to it.

.jpg

It was just an ordinary day, after a swimming session and typically I get ravenous. It’s why I don’t do it so often now since swimming is doing the opposite of what I needed to reach. So, I decided to walk into this place, an eatery that is nestled among houses but adjacent to a tiny plot of rice field and only 400 meters walk from the swimming pool.

the small plot of rice field

Its atmosphere was one of its kind, so serene and quiet in contrast to the area I live where sound pollution and all sorts of pollution are quite a challenge. So, I was surprised this type of place even exists and is not really far from my area.

The place itself was like a gallery of masonry and woodcraft. I am talking about the interior and furniture that are available in the compound. These pieces must have cost millions of local currency and it was just lining up nicely.

I am sure people coming here were just wanting to take pictures, rather than actually enjoying the meal.

the said fried duck

The food they serve? it’s a simple fried duck and chicken. They don’t really have options other than grilled or fried duck served on a hotel sized plate. But obviously, compared to the street side stall, theirs was extremely flavorful with condiment that packs a punch.

Since I ordered fried duck, I didn’t think it was gonna be so crispy and juicy, it was fried in the right way without actually being too oily and not too chewy. Considering the cost that was just so similar with the one in my area, hell, I might as well choose this one for the extra experience and the taste.

After the meal, I was checking out the rest of the compound. They remind me so much of restaurants in Yogyakarta and other areas where they offer some type of rice field view, a place to chat with friends or family. This place is the kind of place that you go to when you want to experience quietness and away from the humdrum of our life at a reasonable price too.

The bad thing is that after swimming, I got down with a fever which entirely ruined half of my day and made me rest, something I hate but needed. So, it’s why I’ve been a little quiet considering the last couple of days, I’ve been buzzin’.

Anyway, see you around as I am certainly behind on quite a few things and don’t get me started on chores, it’s a lot.

I hope you are now doing well. In my case, I lived here in the countryside and I sometimes missed living in the city (been there before for almost 16+ years)

I've lived my whole life in either suburban or a city and it's a dream of mine to have a place in the countryside just for a vacation home or something. As much as I live the city, it can be too noisy for me. Maybe we can switch 😄

maybe this is your sign to acquire a lot in the countryside and start to live there😂

I am not that big fan of duck-based food. maybe you can try Bebek Bengil when you come to Bali.

you still have big days coming, so take some rest Cem, with this kind of weather you can get sick pretty easily.

I saw this duck place in Ubud and I wanted to try it. I think that's the one you're referring to? I am a fan of any duck cuisine and honestly, would prefer that than chicken. I got sick cause I was swimming and that was my first after a while.

Yes that is the one, and I think there is one here in Nusa dua as well. but I recommended the one in Ubud.

It is a charming place. It is photographable, especially that bench that looks like a bonsai trunk. Eating there must be a marvel.

The most exciting thing is the decoration. The food must be very good. I love this kind of places with their own magic and identity.

It was great eating there albeit the menu. But if I were to compare it to the one next to my home, I'd rather go there for the experience and it's less than $3 too

I love the price! But the highlight is the beauty and the view. Totally exotic. : )

I would call that place very "instagrammy" :) I like how they use the stones as furniture! Awesome and eco-friendly idea!

So true! the place is definiely instagram worthy and I am sure people go there just because of that rather than the actual meal offered 😄

Hahha I think if the cafe owner charged the visitors for taking photos there he will get super rich :))

It's different from bebek tepi sawah? That brand is very famous in Jakarta and Bogor. For this, some restaurant doesn't swl food, but sell view

They are very different, this one is the dupe of that famous brand

Hope you are fine now by the way what a love place 💕💕💕I love the wood tables and seats.

Right? like it's a piece of artwork!

Congratulations @macchiata! You received a sweet smile from TravelFeed. We love your work so keep up the good job. 😊

Hello @macchiata
In my city also same
Many rice fields just gone, sold and became houses
Happy for you
You still found that hidden gem
Oh, so sorry for your fever. Hope you get well soon.
Greetings

It's bad because even over here, there are plenty unsold houses. So, rather than buying new why not repurchase these houses. That way though, we'd still have farm fields but I guess one has to keep up with modern living.
