When it comes to Asian food, I have a favorite restaurant that I frequent with my family when we want to eat something good and we're not really in the mood to cook. I live in a border town that has no Asian restaurants, but luckily for us, the situation in the cross-border town of Gorizia is the opposite. And just recently, many new restaurants were opened and they are offering Asian cuisine.
A rainy, lazy Sunday was perfect for a new gourmet experience. We decided to try something new, so I sat down at my computer and checked out the offers of these new restaurants. We decided on a Japanese restaurant called Shi'S. It is a chain of 11 Japanese restaurants in northern Italy that uses carefully selected ingredients for their dishes.
It is a small cozy restaurant in the city center offering a variety of Japanese food, sushi, various dumplings, noodles, etc. They also offer a take away option. There is a huge choice of dishes for lunch, with a few more dishes for dinner option. As soon as we sat down at the table, the waiter offered us a glass of Prosecco sparkling wine on the house. And so, the first impression was excellent.
As for the food, we decided for the all you can eat option, as we wanted to try out the different dishes on offer, and it was also a better choice than ordering individual dishes.

The Nigiri was delicious. We chose to try it with salmon and tuna. We continued with Uramaki Sake and Uramaki Ebi, which were a little adapted to European tastes.
The gyoza with prawns was absolutely fantastic, beautifully crispy on the outside and juicy and divine on the inside.
The temaki was also perfectly prepared, the seaweed was nicely browned, I felt almost as if I was eating chips, as it created a real crunchy surprise in my mouth. Excellent!
The Bao with salmon was absolutely wonderful, one of the best I have ever had.
The fish tartare was equally delightful, and the combination of marinated avocado and mango elevated the flavors even further.
It was the first time I had the opportunity to try Onigri, which somehow failed to impress me, although it was fantastic to look at.
Yakisoba noodles are one of my favorite dishes. I have tried to make them myself at home several times, but I have never managed to make them the way I order them in a restaurant, maybe because I save on the oil 🙃 Well, these ones with salmon, egg and roasted vegetables really didn't disappoint.
The Gunkan also tasted very nice, and the combination of salmon and fresh cream cheese with a bit of baby onion was also a delicious combination of flavors.
During the lunch, I noticed a small flyer that was announcing “the ramen days” but then I realized that we missed them for just a few days. The waiter assured us that they would do it again, but no date has been set yet. I’m already looking forward to the next visit if possible during “ramen days”.
