A homecooked meal is always the best. Do you agree that the next best thing is the food from your hometown? The nice smell and flavor of the food from the place where you grew up feels something else especially if you live far away from home like me!
My recent visit to my hometown was all about food. I went to my home to attend my sister-in-law's wedding. I will share the wedding food separately later in another post. But today I'm gonna share what I have enjoyed randomly daily at my mom's home, my in-law's house, and in some relative's places.
Let's start with Biriyani.
We had a family cookout for my home visit. And no need to say, we preferred to cook Mutton Biriyani. There were 22 people, and we all helped in the cooking process and it came out delicious.
Then comes our traditional Polao with different curries. I was invited to my aunt's place. The food was great with fragrant rice, chicken, and mutton curry.
You may wonder, we enjoyed some meal on the floor. It's like a customer here. We have a dinner table and everything. But we prefer to sit on the floor all together to enjoy the meal.
I ordered some sub sandwiches and nachos to share with my cousin, niece, and nephew. It was from a locally famous restaurant through the delivery service FoodPanda. The food was good.
We had an evening out and had some ChatPoti there. It was spicy cheakpeas with lots of eggs and other spices. It was mouthwateringly good.
Here comes one of our famous dish that is beef leg curry with roti. We eat with our right hand. Yes, it looks a little messy but it tastes better this way.
Last but not least, some homecooked chicken and potato, with some ramen, and fruit and cucumber as sides. It's a wired combo but to each of their own. Different family members picked different things to enjoy.
These are the everyday random meals. There was festive food, wedding food, and lots of home-cooked meals. But this is what our everyday food looks like - rice and roti with a lot of curries. Then snacks, fruits, and tea. This is what Bangladeshi food looks like.
People here are not rich in general. But they have a big heart to celebrate and share. That makes everything much better and appreciable in our daily lives.
I hope you liked our culture and food.
Have a great day.
