Last weekend, I finally had the chance to visit the much-talked-about Salad Lover's food cart at Bashundhara City Shopping Mall. This food stall has been creating quite a buzz for its unique selling point: offering food on a gram basis.
Essentially, every gram of food costs 1 taka, which is approximately $0.01. This system allows for a buffet-like experience where you can indulge in a variety of dishes for around $5 or choose according to your preference and budget.
As expected, the stall was bustling with activity, and I had to wait in line to get my food. The process is straightforward: pick a foil plate or box and then serve yourself from the diverse options available.
Salad Lover's boasts more than 20 different food bowls, providing an extensive selection that caters to a wide range of tastes.
The main courses included various types of pasta, rice, and spaghetti. What really stood out to me, however, were the numerous salad and fruit mix options.
For those following a vegan diet, Salad Lover's has plenty to offer as well. They had Chana, salad, soya, and other vegan-friendly dishes. This inclusivity ensures that everyone can find something they enjoy, making it an ideal spot for diverse groups.
My absolute favorite was the mushroom and chicken dish – it was perfectly seasoned and incredibly satisfying.
The assortment was impressive, with everything from fresh veggies to more complex preparations.

I started my meal with a Coleslaw salad, one of my all-time favorites, and added mushrooms and chicken along with a few other items. My first bowl weighed in at 340 grams, totaling 340 taka, which is about $3. The flavors were delightful, and the freshness of the ingredients was evident. Still feeling a bit indulgent, I went back for another round of chicken and mushrooms, which cost me an additional 300 taka.
I spent 750 taka (around $7.50), and my heart and stomach were completely satisfied. The food was delicious, with most dishes meeting my expectations. The entire experience was not only enjoyable but also economical, given the quality and variety of food available.
The variety and quality of food, combined with the reasonable pricing, make it a must-visit for anyone looking to enjoy a delicious and satisfying meal. Whether you're a fan of hearty mains or fresh salads, this food stall has something for everyone. Don't miss out on this culinary adventure!
