Another Healthy Vegetable Recipe for Me and the Oldies: Special "Bulanglang" With Kalabasa Flowers

I really love that we're eating more vegetables now compared to before, after all the junk foods and oily foods that we eat. We still eat this kind of food, of course, but not that often. Before, I didn't really mind whatever ingredients were on it or how much monosodium glutamate was mixed in. That actually helps to make the food tastier, but that's bad for me. I should avoid those now and eat only what's good for me.

So now, I am more mindful because I read somewhere that it can also cause sinus congestion. With recurring polyps in my nose, that's bad news. So right now I am more mindful and eat foods with anti-inflammatories, ginger has that, so I also include that in my foods. I didn't really eat this before, but now I do, even though it's super hot and spicy. Well, as long as it can help me, then G!

So for today's lunch, I decided to make a vegetable dish called "Bulanglang." But this one has only two main ingredients, which are squash and a flower of squash.

I bought some fresh squash flowers in the market with Mama, and they are really fresh. They also look so pretty lined up in some stalls as if they are inviting all the shoppers, lol. So I only got two ties of these two for 20 pesos. It's kinda expensive now with just a few flowers on it.

So our ingredients are really just simple and really , we'll need half a kilo of squash, two ties of squash flowers, a small ginger, onions, garlic, and salt to taste. That's just it. I love to put fish sauce on it, but that too is not okay for me to eat, so I didn't put anything. But you can try to put some if you ever want to try this recipe.

I started off by prepping all the ingredients, peeling them, and cutting them into my desired size. I did it like this └( ^ω^)」.

As for the squash flowers, I just literally get the flowers leaving their stem. I am an expert when it comes to this now. Look how clean I did it, ehe. Mommy D taught me how to do it. It's easy to do it, but I had no idea how before, but now I know. UwU.

Anyways, after that short preparation, I just clean the veggies using water, while I used salt water in my squash flowers. If ever there's a wiggly, giggly creature that was lost in it, the salt water will surely help to kill it.

It's cooking time!!!

In a clean pan, put 1 cup of water in it, and put all the garden ingredients except the squash flowers. We'll put it last later. Put the salt, ginger, onions, and garlic in it. After that, cover it, heat it up, and let it boil.

When you think that it is about to be cooked already, put the squash flowers in and cover it, let it cook for like 40 seconds, and done.

Serve while it's hot and pair it with rice. I didn't eat that much rice, though, but I eat a lot of veggies. Yum, yum ┏(^0^)┛

Yummy and healthy! We in Bicol were unaware that kalabasa flowers could be cooked. We used to have many, and we simply let them wilt. Does the flower's taste resemble the fruit's?

I can't really tell what's the taste, wala akong sense of taste 🙉🤧🤧. Basta manamis namis sya lalo if freshly picked from the garden uwu

That's a very interesting recipe containing squash flowers, and looks also very healthy and yummy!

You haven't tried squash flowers pa po?

Not yet ... but maybe one day in future.

ohh i love bulanglang 🥹 but definitely not the okra part of it. I'd eat all the other veggies except that 🤣

Hahaha oi, sarap okra ha. Mas masarap if you have toyomansi as a dip. Yun lang madulas lang talaga haha

the madulaspart is why I have a problem with eating it 🤣🤣🤣 it's so yunck to me. but also why di ako nakain ng alugbati 😅

Sobrang sarap niyan ruffa..nagutom ako bigla hahahah. Habang nadadagdagan yung edad ko, mas gusto kong kumain ng veggies after knowing all the preservatives and stuffs sa fastfoods, mas gusto ko nalang gulay. 🙌

Haha, ay sya luto na din if you have time. UwU. Masarap naman talaga mga veggie dish ano, tas partneran na rin ng fish, kuuu, kasarap.

delicious 💖
