Deviled eggs and childhood memories

I'm not sure if it's even a thing outside of my home country, but I can share with you my personal experience. Ordering catering for events or special birthdays, parties for quite a few people is probably nothing strange to the rest of the world. As a child, I was still quite the horrible eater and refused to eat quite a lot of things, now that I have a daughter of my own that's even worse than I was regarding food (when I was a child) I know the struggle my mother went through. Sorry, mom!

Usually, these catering companies would bring a big buffet with all kinds of food. The hot food was quite often something that I didn't fancy (at all) and therefore I was always so pleased to see that they had asparagus rolled in ham and deviled eggs. I kind of got through the night eating those and some slices of bread whenever there was nothing I'd fancy. The thing is that I only ate these deviled eggs at events/parties where there was catering involved because my mother never made them for me and I also never tried making them myself. Quite weird when you think of it because I've loved eggs all my life.

I suddenly had a hunch yesterday and made sure I had all the ingredients to make deviled eggs and it turns out that this is super easy to make and you can give it your own twist in many ways. Today I kept it simple to get to know the recipe. Maybe next time I will add a different twist to it.

Ingredients & Needed Tools

Besides the usual tools like a knife and spoon, you should make sure to have a piping bag with a serrated nozzle ready. These are the few ingredients:

Deviled Eggs (3).jpg

  • 6 Eggs
  • 2 Tablespoons of mayonnaise
  • 1 Teaspoon of mustard
  • Half a teaspoon of curry
  • A pinch of salt
  • Pepper

Deviled Eggs (13).jpg

  • A few chives
  • Parsley for decoration

The Process

The process for this recipe is so simple, anyone can do it. You're just a few steps away from enjoying deviled eggs.

  • Put the eggs in a pan with water and place it on your stove. Once the water boils, you set the timer at 8 minutes. Pour off the water and now scare the eggs with cold water. Peel the eggs.

  • Cut the eggs in half and gently remove the egg yolk from the eggs. Mash the yolks with a fork, mix in the mayonnaise and mustard, a pinch of curry and a little bit of salt and pepper.

  • Use a piping bag to fill the egg whites.

That's it. Now serve on a nice plate and enjoy!

This is looking quite good, and didn't take much to put together. The devil in the name is what I don't get.

I love deviled eggs. I rarely make them because I hate peeling the eggs. I never tried them with a little curry but I will next time. I like to put some horseradish in them. Thanks for sharing on ListNerds.

Never tasted this before but it looks so delicious 😋

It's so simple but nice :)

Although I love eggs, I'm not a big fan of deviled eggs, but this looks & sounds interesting. Think I might have to try this out.

These look like they turned out so awesome! I recently made some as Carnivore Bacon Deviled Eggs, so I excluded the mayo and used sour cream and seasonings instead. I thought they were pretty good and I ate them all! lololol

LOL you ate them allll :)
I have to admit, I did too, because my boyfriend can't handle eggs usually, so eats them as little as possible and my daughter, well she's a pain with food :)

but yours look nice as well! I rarely eat bacon, we had it at home always when we did keto though. Still trying to figure out what approach is best for my boyfriend now that his health issues are starting to get quite bad.

He drinks kurkuma with honey every day and this seems to calm stuff down thankfully, but then again, so many other things did as well (for a short time). He seriously has troubles eating so many things.

So sorry to hear about your boyfriend and his health struggles. That can be so trying!

Still trying to figure out what approach is best for my boyfriend now that his health issues are starting to get quite bad.

I know you mentioned he had tried keto and carnivore for period of time. Did he have issues with the food choices or problems eating?

The way it seems, is that he develops some sort of allergy over time. For example, he discovers something that his stomach can handle without issues (pain, getting ill, not being able to lie down etc) and then of course, he eats this more often as he doesn't have many of these things. Until his body decides enough, and we are back to square one. He has watched numerous of documentaries about food: vegetarian, keto, carnivore you name it, he's well educated about it, but he has a hard time keeping up with any of them, even if they work.

This is partially due to the lack of quality food here. We aren't always able to drive to the bigger supermarkets that sell quality stuff and it's exactly those days that we eat stuff from the surrounding supermarkets, that he's struggling the most. I also know that it would be smart for me to make a decision we go for A. Keto again, or B. you carnivore (I can give it a try but I would prefer vegetarian as I just don't fancy much meat lol, a good steak HELL YEAH, but for the rest it's pretty shitty here quality meat-wise)

I'm determined to make a change this year, also health-wise. I will read through your journey a bit to see if I can use them to convince him :) lol

thanks for taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!

best of luck on your journey and please reach out if you have any questions. I know carnivore isn't for everyone but it was good for me lolol

about 10 years ago I developed a red meat allergy from ticks that lasted about 6 to 9 months, it was horrible. I wonder if what he is dealing with could be parasitic like my red meat allergy?

I don't know, I don't think he's considered that option. Will ask him later when he's done with his meeting. You are bringing up something important, I remember him mentioning his dad had a parasite for years, but that was a souvenir from his time in the military.

He had a few exams (ultrasound, horrible examine with a camera as well) and never found something. Covid isn't helping to get him back to doctor either. Health care is horrible here, long waiting lists, communication sucks if there is any. He finally took the step again 2 weeks ago and his doctor is out of office due to covid. I will see if I can convince him to contact him again and explore this option you mentioned, we may be able to find some info and signs that it could be / or exclude it. Thanks!

I love deviled eggs! And I super love seeing how other people make them!

Also, you have mad piping skills my dear friend!

Hope you are having a fantastic Mother's Day with your family😊

LOL, I wish the mess looked as mad as the eggs though, I mean, it was everywhere :)

I honestly try to avoid it because of the mess hehe, but I guess a good piping bag helps!

Thank you hun, this was the only time we celebrated it on the Hungarian mothers' day (the first Sunday of the month) but it's sweet as you're the 3rd person today saying that to me <3

We did go out though and had some food and a good walk, just before the thunder appeared haha.

Hopefully, yours is great and you probably made some sweet bakings haha.. <3

Deviled eggs!! You're SO mean! I'm vegan!
And this is my favorite food of all times hehe.
I do indulge in eggs sometimes though.
And no animals were killed for it so OK, it's OK.
Deviled eggs are needed here hehehe.

I like this twist too, I usually made them with a little mayonnaise
and tomato paste, not ketchup. That's really nice too. But will try these now.

Haha, sorry! But not sorry :)
I wish I was determined to stick to one diet but I forgave myself and giving myself until we are moved to start working on healthier food only. Too much stress currently around getting all items sold/gifted and then my newly found good roots restaurant is closed for weeks already :( hopefully I will be able to at least eat it once before we leave.
This sucks, this was actually one of the cleanest foods I could order haha.
And you know time.. it's an issue now..

I never made these eggs before until that day, but I will probably give them another go later :) Enjoy!

Good looking boiled egg

lol, thanks, it's more about the filling ;)
