Appetizer is an essential part of our food consumption, and it's a very important want that is taken before an actual meal, and its role is to stimulate our appetite for the major meal, going on to increase our appetite or show, I say, hunger, and then give room for us to eat with much pleasure and comfort. I'm a big fan of appetizers, and that's because I was raised in a home where it's well grinded, and I grew up to adopt the same method in my daily life, and so today I'll be taking you through one of my recipes of the most common regular appetizers I consume before meals.
Growing up, some of what we've had as appetizers are samosas, fruit salad, nachos, shrimp cocktail, meatballs, and the like, and my favorite amongst them was samosas, which is a well-fried pastry with spicy meat and vegetables. However, as of the time I saw this Inleo prompt in collaboration with the Foodies Bee hive community, it was too late for me to gather all the ingredients together and share the recipe, and so I decided to share my second favorite recipe, which is much easier to make and houses loads of nutrients that our body needs, and that's the fruit salad as an appetizer.
So without further ado, below is my recipe for making the fruit salad, which also aligns with my vegan food specific.
Ingredients:
- Banana 🍌 (3 log of bananas )
- Watermelon 🍉 (¼ of full watermelon)
- Pineapple 🍍 (½ of a full pineapple)
- Grapefruit/Orange 🍊 (1 )
- Cucumber 🥒 (1)
- Evaporated milk (59g)
And now to the procedure of making the fruit salad as an appetizer, I won't say there's much of a procedure to this, but then at least one must chop the fruit into smaller pieces for easy consumption, and for someone like me who during my elementary school days doesn't use to carry food to school, my mom would place the fruit salad in my food flask as an appetizer to give me some strength to keep me going and as well give room for in my stomach to have appetite before break time when she'll come to the school with my breakfast, so let's get to how I merge all together.
- So first I make sure to clean all the fruit neatly, especially those that I can consume the entire body, and this is done to keep everything neat and free of germs and the like.
Then I chop all the fruit into smaller portions, as seen in the images below; this is them out inside a bowl or plate that I can eat from or where everyone's portion can then be distributed from.
One, it's on the plate I can eat from. I usually love to have some blend of creamy and yummy on my salad, and so I tend to use evaporated milk when I can get hold of honey lime, which tends to give the best taste, but evaporated milk is just perfect as well, and that's because it gives a form of richness and creaminess to the fruit salad and still lets the natural flavor of the fruit stand out.
And here it's ready to consume. I'm a big fan of these, and it's what I take every morning before leaving for work, while my food is in my lunch box, and by the time I arrive at work and do a few tasks, those fruits would have enhanced my appetite, helping me eat with ease and savoring every bite.
Although I know most people tend to see fruit salad as more of a dessert than an appetizer, it can go for both, and it works for me; fruit, especially the grapes and oranges in the fruit salad, always tends to open up my stomach, making me have like a hunger sensation, and that's exactly what I wanted to achieve when consuming my appetizer.
