Teachers are not magicians but sometimes we need to do some tricks.

Before I'll start my blog, I just want to apologize for being not around for two weeks. There were just some urgent matters the past two weeks especially since we had our first quarter examination and this week was the giving of grades to the students. And now, I'm here to have some updates, hello!
Yesterday was the first quarter of Portfolio Day. The day of giving grades of students to their parents for them to know the progress and development of their children.
Why do parents need to attend Portfolio day?
Parents must give time to attend the said event for them to know the progress of their children in school. Aside from that, they will learn the grades of their children, and they will also be able to have time to ask the teacher about the things that are needed to do to assess the needs of their children at home regarding their studies.
Parents also have the vital role of schooling their students and do not only rely on teachers. The reason why they need to attend for them to gather information on everything they can also contribute to the school. Parents will be able to contribute to the school's betterment especially the student's behavior at school.
Other things teachers do during Portfolio day.
Since I'm a Math teacher, I don't have any exhibit to display for the parents to see like the outputs of students especially since it's the first quarter and I don't yet have anything projects that I implemented yet. It's because we were not fully face-to-face class during the first quarter. I did accomplish this with regards to reminding and giving my students about their project this second quarter, just waiting for them to pass it this week. So yesterday, I don't have any in front of the parents aside from a tarp of paper. But still, I can deliver we'll the things ai need to inform the parents and of course the give of grades.
I also asked the parents of those challenging students that I need their help for their children and to assist them at home. I explain and informed them what their children were up to while at school. I informed the parents about those students who were always absent. I also informed them to prevent their son from driving a motorcycle, especially those who don't have a license yet because there were lots of accidents this past few weeks near our school and some were students.
We also had to elect PTA Officers because it's necessary to have them as part of the parent's contribution to the school. I planned for them to have a project also since some of my co-teachers did the same. So far, I didn't have any problem with the parents who attended. But I'm a bit sad because their we're parents who didn't attend the Portfolio day.
I asked them if there were any questions regarding the grades of their students. And some raised about some blank spaces which mean there are no grades yet, I told them that their children need to comply with lacking outputs to their subject teacher to receive grades. And some also raised why some students have lower grades. I explained to them that teachers are not a magician but we do sometimes tricks to pass the students out of pity. I told them that in my class or subject, my advisory didn't receive lower grades since I tried my best to let my students comply and pass the outputs that will help them pass the subject. It's just that some students don't mind their roles at school and will not keep in touch with their teachers. That's why maybe some teachers will give them low grades. I told the parents that the teacher only computes the outputs of the progress of the students meaning students are the one who gives grades for themselves. So, I told the parents that they should also keep in touch with their children when they're already at home and what happened at school. I told them that asked their children about their lacking and low grades so that they can follow up for an update on compliance since I already reminded my advisory to go to their subject teachers with regards to their lacking grades. I also have done my part in asking the subject teachers and just waiting for the action of the students. I told the parents that they will receive the information regarding those who have no complete grades after their children comply with the things needed.
Teachers and parents must help hand in hand to have good progress for the students. Parents may not know this but every student who knew that their parents attend some events and meetings and school have a great impact on the student's behavior and interest in schooling. Once they noticed that their parents are supportive at school, students will do their responsibility at school well and will also try their best not to disappoint their parents. And that's what I told the parents, the significance of their support. I told them that teachers don't have the magic of giving grades but their support to their children will.
