Olympia zum Greifen nah. Momentan läuft das Qualifikationsturnier der Frauen Eishockey Nationalmannschaft für die Olympischen Spiele 2026. Deutschland muss gegen Österreich, Slowakei und Ungarn ran. Jeder gegen Jeden und der Sieger kriegt das Ticket. Am Donnerstag haben die Damen bereits mit einem 2:0 gegen Österreich das Eis gebrochen und einen guten Start hingelegt.
Da mein Junior immer mehr Interesse am Eishockey entwickelt habe ich schon vor Wochen Tickets besorgt. Das ganze findet nämlich hier in Bremerhaven statt. Die Stadt und das Umland sind sowieso schon begeisterte Fans des Sports. Insgesamt 2570 Zuschauer durften heute unsere Mädels anfeuern und man hat richtig gemerkt wie gut es ihnen getan hat diese verdiente Anerkennung zu bekommen.
Aber erstmal ging es zum DEB Fanshop. Direkt daneben gab es auch noch Aktionen von den Sponsoren. Gratisdreh am Glücksrad und ein Werbegeschenk mitnehmen. Sowas erlebt man nur bei Länderspielen. Vor allem Junior hatte groß abgesahnt, beim DEB hat er glatt das einzige Feld "Hauptgewinn" getroffen und durfte sich dann ein T-Shirt nehmen, das im Shop sonst dreißig Euro gekostet hätte. Da war der Ticketpreis schon wieder drin. Ich habe mir bei einem Sponsor einen Fan-Schal erdreht. Zwar in der Mitte natürlich groß der SponsorName aber an den Enden das Schwarz-Rot-Gold mit DEB Logo, zum winken im Torjubel hat sich das Teil super gemacht. Und es kam auch gut zum Einsatz.
In der Drittelpause durften wir dann ein Mini Hockey Spiel ausprobieren. Sechzig Sekunden lang leuchtet irgendwo ein roter Punkt auf und man muss den Puck über den Punkt schieben. Junior hat doch glatt 16 Punkte geholt, ich durfte dann mit 25 Punkten feststellen, dass meine Jugend auf den Eisflächen des Dorfteiches doch schon länger her ist. Der Rekordhalter des Tages hatte 76 Punkte.
Das Spiel war einfach super. War hatten Plätze direkt hinter dem slowakischen Tor und unsere Damen haben bei dieser Megakulisse richtig aufgedreht. In den ersten sechs Minuten gleich drei Tore war ein Traumstart. Beim dritten Tor hatte ich das Glück gerade ein Foto machen zu wollen, so dass dieser Schnappschuss entstanden ist.
Das dem Fraueneishockey das Körperbetonte spiel fehlt ist eine krasse Fehleinschätzung. Ja, direkte Checks sind nicht erlaubt. In meinen Augen macht es das Spiel um so spannender weil die taktischen Komponenten und das Passspiel noch mehr durchkommen. Die Kombinationen, die hier auf das Eis gezaubert wurden waren super anzusehen.
Am Ende konnten wir ein sechs zu eins bejubeln und die hiesigen Fans haben gezeigt, was sie können. Der Stehblock, der im Ligabetrieb für die Fans des Auswärtsteams reserviert ist wurde von der Jugendabteilung des Fanklubs besetzt und die haben mit ihren Anfeuerungsrufen richtig Druck gemacht.
Zehn Minuten vor Schluss hat die Halle schon "Oh wie ist das schön" Gesänge angestimmt und eine Laolawelle durchs Stadion gejagt, die ganze sechs Runden durchgehalten hat.
Nach dem Spiel haben wir uns noch zur Erinnerung einen Puck gekauft. Denn im Laufe des Tages realisierten wir beide endlich, dass wir ein Eishockey Länderspiel schauten. Kein Vorbereitungsspiel oder Freundschaftsspiel. Kein Testspiel. Hier geht es um was. Es geht um die Teilnahme bei den Olympischen Spielen. Und als Junior mich fragte, wie viele Länderspiele ich denn in meinem Leben schon gesehen hatte, viel mir auf, dass auch dies für mich das erste war, dass ich live sah.
Ein gelungener Tag für die Nationalmannschaft der DEB Frauen und ein traumhaftes Länderspieldebüt sowohl für mich, wie auch für Junior. Darauf werden wir noch Jahrelang freudig zurückblicken.
Heute Abend geht es dann um 18 Uhr gegen Ungarn. Wir drücken die Daumen, dass damit die Qualifikation perfekt gemacht wird und wir uns auf ganz viel Eishockey mit deutscher Beteiligung nächstes Jahr freuen können.

As my junior is becoming more and more interested in ice hockey, I bought tickets several weeks ago. The whole thing is taking place here in Bremerhaven. The city and the surrounding area are already enthusiastic fans of the sport. A total of 2570 spectators were able to cheer on our girls today and you could really feel how good it did them to receive this well-deserved recognition.
But first we went to the DEB fan shop. Right next to it there were also promotions from the sponsors. Free spins on the wheel of fortune and a free gift. You only experience something like that at international matches. Junior in particular scored big: he hit the only ‘main prize’ field at the DEB and was then allowed to take a T-shirt that would otherwise have cost thirty euros in the shop. The tickets already paid off. I won a fan scarf from a sponsor. It had the sponsor's name in big letters in the centre, of course, but the black, red and gold with the DEB logo on the ends. It was excellent for whirling it around when a goal was scored. And it did get whirled a good many times.
During the break between periods, we were then allowed to try out a mini hockey game. for sixty seconds a red dot lights up somewhere and you have to push the puck over the dot. Junior managed to score 16 points, while I scored 25 points and realised that my youth on the ice rinks of the village pond was a long time ago. The record holder of the day had 76 points.
The game was just great. We had seats right behind the Slovakian goal and our ladies really turned up the heat in this mega crowd. Three goals in the first six minutes was a dream start. I was lucky enough to take a photo at the moment they scored the third goal.
The idea that women's ice hockey lacks a physical component is a blatant misjudgement. Yes, direct checks are not allowed. In my opinion, it makes the game all the more exciting because the tactical components and the passing game come through even more. The combinations that were conjured up on the ice were great to watch.
In the end, we were able to cheer on a six to one victory and the local fans showed what they are capable of. The standing section, which is reserved for the away team's fans in the league, was occupied by the youth section of the fan club and they really put the pressure on with their cheers.
Ten minutes before the end of the game, the crowd was already chanting ‘Oh how beautiful it is’ and a wave swept through the stadium that lasted for six laps.
After the game, we bought a puck as a souvenir. As the day progressed, we both finally realised that we were watching an international ice hockey match. Not a preparation game or a friendly. Not a test match. This is about something. It's about participating in the Olympic Games. And when Junior asked me how many international games I'd seen in my life, I realised that this was the first one I'd ever seen live.
A successful day for the DEB women's national team and a fantastic international debut for both me and Junior. We'll look back on this with joy for years to come.
Tonight's game is against Hungary at 6pm. We're keeping our fingers crossed that they qualify so that we can look forward to a lot of ice hockey with German participation next year.
