As the previous year runs by, I kept on waiting for this series, 7doors produced and directed by Femi Adebayo. Evidently, one of the top Netflix series that has come out from Nigerians is 7doors.
Before I go on telling you what happened in the series, I think you’d have to dedicate about four hours of your time to this series if you want to watch it.
This wonderful series is a Nigerian epic series which proves and shows the African amd Nigerian culture especially that which has to do with the King and its village entirely.
The series opens in a scene where seven different women fell on the rocks of a waterfall and died. That was when I knew that something interesting was about to come up.
After then, Adedunjoye, his wife Amaka and his two kids were at a basketball corner, playing and having fun. Happily, he got a call to become the King of his village, Ilara Kingdom. Adedunjoye was never interested because he was happy with the little family he had and they were doing well.
Amaka pleaded with him to become King and accept whatever comes his way.
At that time, I felt the series would be a great one.
I saw a loving wife pleading anf begging her husband to become King. A typical Nigerian or African wife kneels for her husband especially when we want to plead with him. Adedunjoye accepted and became King. On becoming King, it was never an easy process. He fought demons and things normal people could never think of before becoming King.
What’s more interesting than a coronation party after a new King has been installed? Nothing! During the coronation, every member of Ilara Kingdom was present, danced and had fun at the party. In an African society, a new King’s coronation means peace, love and unity.
Everyone expected the village to be peaceful but things went the other way round. The whole Kingdom scattered and everywhere was in disarray.
Was there a solution? Yes, why not? King Adedunjoye was asked to knock on seven doors? How was he going to do that, it means he would have to marry six other wives. He was becoming stubborn at first until he lost a child.
Eventually, he heard a story about his forefather. His forefather killed his brother to become King. Also, he killed his seven wives to become King. Who does that?
This was when I knew the series isn’t just an ordinary one but one of a kind. What’s really going to make a man kill his seven wives? That’s because he wants a longer life and things eventually went bad for him.
Talking about the characterization, it was very perfect. The forefather who killed his seven wives wore the face of a very wicked man.
Even the present Kimg Adedunjoye acted confused when it was needed and gave every scene the perfect face for the kind of mood that is needed.
The chemistry between King Adedunjoye and his wife Amaka, was a great one. If you didn’t know them or about their lives in real life, you’d think they were lovers. I cried at some point when Amaka was left with no choice than to accept six more wives that Kingdom will be peaceful again.
Would I actually accept this is my husband does it to me? It’s gonna be hard. Amaka accepted and things even became harder. The six more wives frustrated Amaka but that didn’t change anything that was going on in the Kingdom.
Then, Esusu came in. I think I should use this paragraph to hail Esusu alone. Esusu played by Aliu Gafar is an exceptional role. Mere looking at Aliu, I never knew a great role and performance like this could come out of him but that happened.
Esuss also meant a wicked person and I still find it hard to spot out the wicked person between him and King Adedunjoye’s forefather who killed his brother to become King and his wives to live longer.
At the end, it was discovered that Esusu was the one who caused every disarray happening in the Kingdom just because of his unfinished deal with the forefather of King Adedunjoye. The King had no choice than to go in a battle with Esusu.
The Esusu we know in that movie is a demon so how do we expect a normal person to have a fight with a demon.
In that scene, the suspence became crazy. What if the King dies? “I asked myself”. With the help of his forefather, King Adedunjoye won the battle.
He and Esusu had first disappeared to the land of the unknown. Everyone was surprised including his other six wives but Amaka stepped forward to see if her husband was really gone. He came back and the lover woman ran forward to hug her husband.
I didn’t know when tears rolled out my face. This is love, I said to myself and I hope I get this sort of love someday.
Theme of the series
Love
If it wasn’t for the love of his wife, he wouldn’t have come this far. He had the back up of his beloved wife and that was why things went easy even though it wasn’t really easy.
Also, King Adedunjoye and his wife, Amaka went through a lot but stayed together despite what happened to them. They stayed together in love and fought every battle.
Unity
Another theme is unity. Amaka was from the Igbo tribe while King Adedunjoye was from the Yoruba tribe. Normally, the tribe difference is something people pester about but it was entirely different here.
The igbo tribe of Amaka were also there when King Adedunjoye was about to go fight the battle with Esusu and they even strengthened him.
For real, this series is one of a kind. The normal language spoken there is the Yoruba language but it’s subtitled in English language which makes it easier to understand.
I’m sure you will never regret seeing this. I’d give this a ten over ten. I’ve rated the characterization, costume, acting, continuity, location and every other thing a movie or series needs to have. I’d rate this series a 9/10.
Have fun while watching.
