After a tedious day of being depressed and tired to the bone. I craved a little bit of laughter, and that's where this guy's "The Mitchells", came in.
The Mitchells are quite the odd family, not that any family, in reality, is perfect but the amount of craziness they readily unleash makes them the center of attention. From the father who loves the great outdoors but somehow is outdated when it comes to technology, to the daughter who loves creating video content (satisfying but odd video content), to the younger brother whose extreme love for dinosaurs drives him to craziness and back. And finally, the caring and loving mother who is just everly relentless and fierce.
The movie presents itself in an artistic style that is similar to that of the spiderman into the spider verse, which served to exaggerate and also supplement the story which has a finely tuned script about a young girl with an extreme dose of creativity being forced to fend off an army of robots released by a technologically advanced phone company called "pal", and this happens as she embarks on a road trip with her entire family. Along with the robot invasion she's also faced a slowly but steadily crumbling relationship between herself and her father. Will they survive the robot apocalypse? will their bond be restored ?? or will they die in the process??
These are questions that the movie poses as it races geniusly with its quest for survival.
The movie is an absolute joy, there are so many reasons to laugh, smile, and be happy with the number of creative gags, as well as comedy displayed in its full glory.
Although animated for kids, and pure entertainment, it didn't leave the adults out of it. As it emphasizes the effects of excessive reliance slash overuse of technology and our phones in general, plus the effect of active miscommunication and misunderstanding between parents and children.
Although the movie itself is wonderful and an absolute delight to behold, there's still one question on my mind ever since I saw the movie, and that is what about the camera?.
If you have watched this movie I'm sure you probably have noticed and ignored the camera which Katie carries around, forgetting tor the fact that the cameras have chips. This means, that, Katie Mitchell's camera should have turned against them.
I watched the whole of the movie in anticipation that the camera would go rogue but it did not, Instead what the creative writers and producers did was to include not just one but two cameras each in different scenes of the movie.
It's hilarious because I forgot that Katie's camera is a main character, and the one rule of Hollywood, is, the main characters never die.
Finally, the movie would not be complete without its amazing voice actors and actresses. From Abbi Jacobson to Danny McBride to Maya Rudolph to Eric Andre to Fred Armisen( who were voices of the Mitchell family) and Beck Bennett(who voiced the robots) to Oscar-winner Olivia Colman (who voiced the leader of the rampaging robots.)
This is a movie for the ages that testifies greatly about how far animation is pushing toward breaking its limitation. It is a movie for everyone and I'm hoping you'll make time to see it.
