It's no longer news that Dwyane Johnson is the powerhouse of the movie industry delivering rock bottoms to every role he plays. And in San Andreas, it's the same old story.
During a massive natural disaster that sees the city of San Andreas shake down to its knees, husband and pilot Ray(Dwayne Johnson) embarks on a deadly mission to rescue his wife and daughter.
San Andreas is a 2015 movie that took its time to explore the situation of a natural disaster. Starting with the very familiar earthquake before increasing its tempo by introducing flood.
I find it very fascinating that the movie was able to create entertainment while still passing information to its audience.
Even though earthquakes are not something that happen very often in this part of the world I'm from, the fact that they were able to provide a survival guide in case of such an emergency made it worthwhile as I was learning new things throughout the entire movie.
But apart from its educative side, I don't think San Andreas has a lot to offer. The storyline is just weak, and it has zero action scenes. For me, it's a normal occurrence to see Dwyane Johnson in an action movie, one where he is either beaten to a pulp or one where he beats his enemies and grinds them to dust beneath his feet. But in this movie, he plays the role of a rescue ranger who uses his chopper to find and rescue his family. And although at first for me it seemed a little bit less than... Dwyane Johnson did pull it off, turns out that having a huge body has its benefits.
Though there were no action scenes(fight scenes), I did enjoy its intensive earthquake and natural disaster scenes that united with the chopper rescue attempt to make the movie watchable and engaging.
In this movie, I feel there are three sides to this story, the first is Ray's story (Dwyane Johnson), the earthquake, and Blake's story(Alexandra D'addario). Blake is Ray's daughter who amidst the sense of shattering destruction finds herself trapped inside a car underneath a collapsing building until her prince charming comes to her rescue.
And yes, you guessed it right. This is where all the love starts to grow. I didn't feel any love though, but Alexandra's beauty is strong enough to make me feel the illusion of love even though they were only trying to survive. And even when she kissed her prince charming, I still didn't feel anything.
Thanks to the beauty of Alexandra D'addario and the electrifying entertainment from Dwayne Johnson, I was able to sit through this 80 minutes movie directed by Brad Peyton.
In the end, Dwyane Johnson is still the Rock in every movie I see.
