More National Treasure?

For as long as I can remember, I have been fascinated with treasure. How could I not be, I came from the generation that was raised on Indiana Jones, Romancing the Stone, Alan Quartermain and King Solomons Mines, Candleshoe, need I go on? These were just a few of the movies from when I was a kid that piqued my interest in history and more importantly treasure. Goonies, I almost forgot The Goonies! What was I thinking?

As I grew up, that love of buried treasure and treasure hunting didn't go away. One of my favorite authors is Clive Cussler. Though he has passed away, his characters still live on and there are any number of people picking up the mantle from him writing adventurous tales of lost treasure and heroes rediscovering it.

Then movies like Fools Gold came out and eventually the National Treasure series. I've always been a fan of Nicholas Cage. I know some people aren't, to each their own, but he is one of my favorite actors. I think that made the National Treasure movies even more appealing for me.

I think many of us who are fans were dismayed when the Book of Secrets finished up teasing a bit of a cliff hanger then we waited and waited and waited for a third movie that never came.

I'm happy to tell you that just the other day I saw an advertisement for Disney Plus and they were pushing a new National Treasure: Edge of History series that is going to be released. I am super excited about this for a number of reasons.

First, it's National Treasure, anything that has people hunting the globe for buried treasure is alright with me. Second, they are taking a different track and introducing some new characters. Now, some people might be upset to find that out. It looks like this show is going to have a female lead as well as a strong female cast.

While some may consider that too woke for them, need I remind you that Relic Hunter was on for several seasons and it also had a strong female lead in Tia Carrera long before "woke" was even a thing. No one seemed to care too much back then, so why should we now?

Here is a quote from IMDB that explains the plot of the show:

"Lisette Olivera stars as Jess Valenzuela, an adventurous 20-year-old dreamer who, along with the help of her friends, sets off on a journey to recover lost Pan-American treasures from around the globe, while uncovering family secrets along the way."

I never got rid of my Disney Plus subscription, so I will definitely be tuning in for this one. It looks like this might even have some familiar faces from the movies that we all know and love. You will just have to check it out to see. Or look at the IMDB page. That's what I did.

In researching this for you, I also stumbled upon an extra bit of good news. It looks like they are going to be making a National Treasure 3 and 4 movie. I don't know if they even know what the plot is going to be yet, but the fact that they are making them is good enough for me.

Perhaps we will finally found out what was on page whatever it was of the President's Book? Even if it is a totally different storyline, I am totally geek'd. These are all going to be on my "to watch" list for sure.

How about you? Is this one you are going to check out?

Do you love treasure movies like I do? What is your favorite one? Let's talk about it in the comments!

I've been a Nick Cage fan for some time as well. I actually quite enjoyed his recent movie "Pig". Interesting flick.

I heard about it but I haven't watched it. There was a time he was putting out a bunch of strait to DVD movies. I think I missed a lot of those.

It was in limited theaters I think, but has been dropped on Hulu which was where I saw it. I'm a camera geek, so I quite enjoyed the cinematography.

I think we get Hulu with our Disney+ subscription, so I might have to check it out. Thanks for the heads up!

Looks interesting, but first I do have to finish, Wednesday on Netflix.

I have never been much of an Addams Family fan, so I am not sure I will watch Wednesday. I just finished watching 1899 though and that was interesting.

What’s in favor of Wednesday is the producer. Tim Burton.
But hey we can’t have all the same flavors. Would be a boring world if it was this way!

Yeah, for sure. I am not sure I have actually seen too many Tim Burton movies. A lot of the big ones slipped past me I think.

I've always been a fan of Nicholas Cage.

He is a very good actor. Currently my favorite movie from him is Next (2007). I saw it more than a decade ago, but I still remember it as if I would have watched it yesterday. It is a very exciting sci-fi action thriller movie. Have you seen it?

No, I don't think I have seen that one. Probably my two most favorite movies of his are The Rock and Gone in 60 Seconds. He did really good in that remake. Knowing was pretty interesting too. Of course I love the National Treasure movies.

One of my favorite authors is Clive Cussler

Yes! Mine too. Now I am intrigued as I never watched these Natural Treasure movies.

Oh, they are pretty good. You should check them both out.

I've seen plenty of movies like this, but I don't think I've watched a National Treasure. I have no issues at all with a female lead. Nicolas Cage can be quirky, but I've enjoyed some of his movies. It seems Harrison Ford is doing yet another Indiana Jones, but he's really getting too old for all that running around.

I enjoy a nice escapist movie. I don't need gritty reality all the time.

I am the same way. My wife is pretty straight with movies. If it can't happen in real life she isn't interested in it. I am able to separate myself from reality for a bit and just enjoy something as pure entertainment. No matter how far fetched it is. It always makes me laugh the people who analyze every aspect of a movie and pick apart how that isn't possible or it doesn't happen like that. Who cares! Just eat your popcorn and enjoy the show!

Exactly. It's just entertainment. If you want reality then watch the news.

Most of what I watch tends to be scifi and fantasy with some comedy on the side.

Yeah, I am that way too. I have a block of time each night where my wife has already gone to bed and I watch an episode or two of some fantasy or scifi show. Right now I am watching Andor.

I've finished Andor and enjoyed it. We're watching Wednesday together. Got a few other things to check out.

Did you watch 1899 yet? It is interesting. Knowing it is by the same person that did Dark, that doesn't surprise me.

I enjoyed Dark, so I may take a look. It's a matter of finding the time.

My favorite adventure movies was of course Indy! The raiders of the lost ark was amazing to me as a kid. Man, that ark looked awesome!

Yeah, I feel the same way. I remember watching it at a friends house and they were so excited to see the snake pit. Then we got to that part and they had fallen asleep!

😅 Reminds me of watching films with my wife..

I don't have a problem with female leads though it sounds like the link between this show and the movies is non-existent. I guess they are just leveraging the same for a new treasure hunting show. Hopefully it is a good one. Kind of along the same vein but perhaps a bit different, I enjoyed Warehouse 13 too.

Speaking of Indiana Jones, filming wrapped back in February for the new one and it is due out at the end of June. Set in 1969 this time.

I'm not sure how I feel about that. The fourth Indy was a bit meh. His age was clearly starting to show and I just felt like they were trying too hard. Warehouse 13 was pretty awesome. I watched all of that show. I saw they were doing something similar over on TNT called the Librarians. I never got into it too much though. I should go back and check that. Even if this doesn't tie in to the movie too much I will still enjoy it I think. Anything with treasure pretty much has my attention no matter what.

Indiana Jones is one of my favorite movie franchises and while the last one certainly wasn't the best of the lot I still enjoyed it. It will be interesting to see how this one turns out as there is a different director. i wouldn't mind seeing them continue the franchise with a different actor at some point. I enjoyed The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles for instance and there is plenty of room for stories with a younger Indiana Jones between that time and Raiders. Or even set around the same time as the other movies and other stories have been done in books and games. I just hope they don't go remaking anything.

i haven't watched the Librarians yet. I know there's a series and some movies. Seems like it might be good if they didn't make it too goofy or anything.

I need to go back and watch the 4th one at some point. I think I only saw it once and I don't remember too much about it. Young Indy was good yes. Seeing how he made all the connections he has might be good. I'm not a huge fan of the guy that played his son in the last one. Can't think of his name, but that was kind of a turn off for me. I am not sure I could handle them continuing on with just him. Ah Shia LaBeouf that was it.

This is great news, I love treasure movies as well. Growing up there was a TV space called "Cine de Aventuras" where every Saturday they played adventures movies like Indiana Jones, National Treasure and others and I didn't miss it for anything. I'm also a fan of the Goonies, of course, and my favorite treasure movie I think could be National Treasure, I like Tomb Raider a lot too.

Tomb Raider was pretty good yes. Even the recent remake that they did. I didn't play the games too much, but I can see how they would have been fun. I had an Indiana Jones game for a while, but I never really got into it for some reason. Which surprises me. That sounds like a really cool program and a great way to spend your Saturday nights!
