Days Of Thunder
Hello everybody this is my submission for the Movies that rocked your childhood contest held by CineTV. Click that link if you want to participate yourself it will lead you to the page and details of the contest.
So the movie that rocked my childhood was none other than the classic Tom Cruise movie Days Of Thunder. I remember watching this with my old man and being absolutely glued to it from all the amazing songs in it like gimmie some lovin by Spencer Davis Group to hearts in trouble by Chicago. The musical score of this movie is legendary and really adds to the feeling of emotion portrayed in the show.
I'll admit when I was a kid I just thought it was a cool movie about NASCAR some awesome races and hilarious scenes in the show like the rental car race between Cole Trickle and Rowdy Burns. Also, who could forget that scene with Tom Cruise using a ketchup packet to describe how passing worked in NASCAR haha.
As I got older and rewatched the movie some times over I realized so many of the things the movie deals with. From depression to rivalry to friendship it covers so many things and does it so well. You get a real sense of camaraderie between Cole and Harry that is forged in fire throughout the movie. Not only that but the friendly rivalry with Rowdy Burns is one of the best I have seen.
I still quote the movie to this day from iconic lines such as "No, no, he didn't slam you, he didn't bump you, he didn't nudge you... he rubbed you. And rubbin, son, is racin'" to I'm droppin' the hammer there are so many great lines in this movie that will stick with you through your life.
Cast
Then we get to the star-studded cast it was loaded from top to bottom. Of course, we knew who Tom Cruise is but there were so many supporting actors that really made this show as special as it is. From Robert Duvall to Michael Rooker and Cary Elwes it was just loaded with talent and all those great performances on screen came through loud and clear.
I especially love the relationship between Cole, Harry and Rowdy all of them go through such an incredible journey throughout the course of the movie and it makes you have an appreciation for the bond between the mentor which is Harry and the rival who is Rowdy.
Why I Think Its Great
As I stated above this movie succeeds in so many different categories being funny, full of action, and dealing with the many issues of life. By the end of the movie you have gone on a journey with the amazing cast and come to like most if not all of them even Russ Wheeler who is a total dick in the movie played by Cary Elwes is done so well and you love to hate him throughout.
