I watched this movie, and I think you should too.
Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
I would not have paid 20 dollars to see this movie, although I do like the topic quite a bit. Of course, all D+D fans have had a series of disappointments on the movie front before, but WarCraft turned out to be one of my favorite movies, so I was hoping this movie could be something similar.
I tried to temper my expectations, but to be honest I expected that at least Chris Pine would be able to carry this. And while the movie did not blow me away, I enjoyed this title very much and laughed out loud more than once.
Will I watch it again? Yes
Is it a standout title? No
While the movie did not take my breath away, it did manage to entertain and in no moment make me regret watching it. There were no gratuituous sex scenes, no cringy post-modernisms, there were no gay relationships. It was fresh and funny, and plodded along through a decent script, staying bound to the rules of the universe. The characters were fun and each of them had little arcs that made them feel human.
Now I am not planning to spoil anything. And really there is really nothing to spoil! Honestly, I can hardly remember what happened, and that's why I would watch it again.
There are a few, 'What happened to the helmet?' moments, I'm not saying its the tightest script but it works. There's a bit of family drama, but not too much - and in the end I think the resolution works. Like any good adventure, afterwards our heroes seem primed for a sequel - rested, refreshed and equipped with new loot (lute?).
Honestly, I think this is a better investment for Amazon than the Rings of Power. People watch and rewatch stuff like this. Dungeon of the month, and easy enough to add other adventuring groups.
Which reminds me, this movie is available to all with their Amazon Prime membership. I am a prime member in the US, but am unable to watch in Colombia because of region locking. I chose to use a torrent to access things like this, and the magnetlink hash is available on the HIVE blockchain, thanks to an interesting new project @magnetbank. Another option is a VPN, of which there are many services and many people recommending them, mostly because many of them use a referral model.
Well the model I prefer does not require paying anyone, and the @magnetbank project is working ot store more of these hashes in the HIVE blockchain. This can range from Rare Books to Open Source Software, but one controversial use case has been the sharing of digital content such as Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
