Actors have always been my favorite people. I'm a huge movie buff, and I love movies because they're about people. And the more of them you see, the better you get at identifying what makes each one unique. In my opinion, there's no finer actor than Robert De Niro. He can play anything. From the tough guy in Raging Bull to the nervous lawyer in The Paper Chase, he can do it all with ease. But my favorite role that he ever played was in Taxi Driver, when he played Travis Bickle, a deranged Vietnam vet who gets obsessed with a young prostitute.
When I first saw this film, I was hooked on him immediately. Not only did he make me believe that he could be as crazy as his character, but he made me believe that he could actually be the character, too. I've seen many actors try to pull off such an intense performance, but none of them have succeeded like De Niro. It takes someone special to be able to put themselves into another person's shoes so completely. To me, he is the greatest living actor.
His career has spanned over forty years, during which time he's starred in some of the most popular films ever made. If you were to ask me to name my top ten favorite movies, I'd probably list three or four of his movies, including Taxi Driver, The Godfather, and Goodfellas. Even though he's not quite as big a star today as he once was, he still remains one of Hollywood's best-loved stars.
I remember watching him in several movies when I was growing up, including Taxi Driver, King of Comedy, and Cape Fear. These are just a few of his memorable performances. I also loved him in Analyze This, Awakenings, and Meet the Parents.
There are very few actors who can match De Niro's range. He can play the tough guy, the funny guy, the smart guy, and even the romantic lead. He's played everything from gangsters to cops to politicians. His versatility is unmatched by any other actor working today.
I've always thought that De Niro had the perfect face for acting. He's got that hard, rugged look that's almost intimidating, but at the same time he has a certain softness to him that makes you want to protect him. I love how he looks in a suit. It seems like he could be anyone—a cop, a soldier, a businessman, a lawyer. That's why I think he's such a great actor.
He doesn't rely on makeup or prosthetics to transform himself into different characters. Instead, he relies on his own physicality and his ability to project emotion through his eyes. He's a master of subtlety, which is why he's so good at playing quiet, sensitive roles. When he plays a part like Travis Bickle, he shows us only what we need to see to understand his character.
I think he's one of the most underrated actors of our time. There are plenty of actors out there who are more famous than him, but none of them are as talented. He's the kind of actor who can make you feel like you know his characters personally. You feel like you really understand them, and you care about their lives.
Even if you don't recognize his name, you've definitely seen him before. He's been in some of the biggest movies ever made. I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say that he's one of the finest actors alive today. As long as he keeps making movies, I'll keep watching them.
