Dearest Gentle Readers,

A couple of weeks ago, I was opportuned to watch the third season of Bridgerton. The season that I was excited to watch because of the two main characters. I took a bit long to watch this season because I wanted to read the book first and I am glad I made that decision. All I can say about this season is that, if you have high expectations for it, lower it because you will be disappointed (if you have read the books).

As we all know, Bridgerton is a historical romance drama that was distributed by Netflix and created by Chris Van Dusen with Shonda Rhimes as part of the executive producers. It is a drama that was set in the 1800 (Regency era) in London. So far it has premiered 3 seasons and I will be reviewing the third in this post.

This third season is based on Julia Quinn's Romancing Mister Bridgerton book but as the film producers will have it, we were graced with a story that is different from the original book itself. This was highly disappointing for me. This season in particular starred Nicola Coughlan, Luke Newton, Ruth Gemmell, Florence Hunt, Claudia Jessie, Polly Walker, Julie Andrews, Adjoa Andoh, Jessica Madsen, Jonathan Bailey and many others.

It is a new season for ladies of the society to come out and it is also Francesca Bridgerton’s turn to make her debut to society. Colins returns back from his sabbatical travels abroad and charms a whole lot of ladies. Penelope wasn't thrilled about this because it was like Colins became a new person she wasn't familiar with.

On the other hand, Penelope now is ready to look for a husband, she is ready to give up her longtime crush on Colin. She was done with having feelings for a man who seeks attention from all the ladies he charms. Now, Penelope is on a journey to seek a man that would love and allow her to live her double life as a wife and Lady Whistledown.

However, fate has a different plan for Penelope but she doesn't know it yet. Will Penelope be successful with her journey? Will she find that worthy man? You have to watch the drama to know what happens to Penelope and how will it all end?

My Review And Rating.

Like I said earlier at the beginning of this post, I had high expectations for this season, in fact I was super excited waiting to watch it. In the end, this season didn't meet my expectations and I was rudely disappointed. Haha, I had to use the word rudely because tell me why the storyline of the book is not properly portrayed in the show.

Firstly, from the book, the trope is friends to lovers but in the show we got enemies (hateful) to lovers between Colin and Penelope. This alone, made the whole storyline and main motive of the show to be lost in a myriad of subplots.

Not following the book gives room for the two main characters to be different. I mean, the book Colin was a kind, gentle, supportive, and intuitive character but the show’s Colin was insensitive, emotionally dull, not supportive and not intuitive. This made Colin to be hateful to Penelope at the beginning, but in the books he was very supportive of Penelope. Encouraging her and helping her build her self esteem.

Again, we have the mess of the unveiling of who is Lady Whistledown. In the books, it was a praiseful unveiling, everyone was proud of what she had accomplished, but in the show we get an apologetic and disgraceful unveiling where Penelope begs and promises everyone that she would do better.

The plot scenes arrangements were perfect. The background settings were impressive. Good colors, costumes, lighting, and location. The soundtrack selections were amazing. The steamy scenes were filmed well. Everything about the show was good except for the storyline misconceptions.

The cast were fantastic with all their roles. Some of their performances were so strong that it elicited emotions like anger, annoyance and excitement from me. I love that I was able to connect with all the characters on a deeper level and understand everything about them.

Rating this season, I will give it 6 out 10 stars. I wasn't that impressed but it was still a good and entertaining watch for me. I enjoyed it and if you are a lover of historical romance drama, I recommend you watch this Tv show.

To be honest I really didn't know that Bridgerton has brought out a season 3 or it had books😂😂😂

The hype around the series has really died down...

It started very well but along the line it was watered down to suit the trend of the new generation. You should read the books. You would enjoy it.

It is never a surprise to me because movies, try as they might, rarely ever beat the book version. I read the entire Bridgerton series when I was much younger and when I saw the hype about the movie series, I didn't put too much expectation on it and rightfully so, because why? Lol.

Hahaha! So it's finally books always win. I won't be watching the other series to come. I need to keep the memory of the books fresh. I appreciate your visit. Thank you
