Having a superpower, won't only help in providing solutions for the several challenges of life such as bullying, self-defence, and so on, but gives a certain feeling of being on top of the world. This is normally common in the youths. And that is what this movie is all about. Imagine having a superpower for about five minutes! Yeah, that feeling. Guess that's why it caught the attention of many youths in New Orleans!.
The movie Project Power is centred on the ability of a pill — power, to give anyone that takes it a superpower for about five minutes. And the good thing about it is that it grants various superpowers. Aside from its good side, power is very detrimental to one's health, in fact, it kills when taken in excess.
Knowing the side effects of the pill, an NOPD officer, Frank Shaver, is out to control the consumption of power by the youths of New Orleans. He teams up with an ex soldier, Art — who claims to know the origin of the pill. According to him, his daughter, Tracy — the drug dealer abducted, is the source of the drug, she is the one that knows the chemical formula of the pill.
Though having different goals, but the same enemy, Frank and Art had to team up in order to achieve their different goals, with the help of a teenage girl, Robin, who was a dealer. To overcome the series of challenges they faced, Art and Frank had to take the pill, though Frank is a regular consumer of the drug, especially when he's about fighting against those that have consumed it.
Their mission wasn't that smooth, but they came out successful with no loss. I love so many things about the movie. The cast did wonderfully well in taking the character role they played. The movie stars the likes of Jamie Foxx as Art, Joseph Gordon-Levitt as Frank Shaver, and Dominique Fishback as Robin, and so on.
The movie was written by Mattson Tomlin, directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman, and produced by Eric Newman. It was released in 2020.
