As someone who hardly ever watches movies since I finished high school, there was just one movie that left its imprint on me and it’s quite surprising that it is not so talked about in any movie community I have checked out, even though I feel some persons might have seen it (I guess it wasn’t as spectacular to them as it was to me). It was in 2020, a friend asked me if I have seen the movie SPIES IN DISGUISE, my first reaction was, trying to compare the movie to the one Jack Chan acted. Well, to my surprise, I was told it was an animated movie and just watching the intro on my friend’s phone, I was totally into the movie.
I wasn’t in a haste to leave where I was that day and I think my friend too but one thing was certain, I wasn’t at home that day. So, it was fine for me to watch the movie on my friend’s phone. Just barely 20 minutes into the movie I was already laughing so hard and wishing the movie would be longer and time can wait for me to see how everything keeps unfolding. I mean, the movie wasn’t even up to 2 hours, sadly.
While I was still enjoying how the casts were being introduced to me with every scene, I was so interested in just one of the cast at first which was Will Smith. Knowing that Will Smith was acting as the main protagonist in the movie, I got even more interested in watching the movie. For the records, I think I watched the part where he was introduced in the movie as Lance Sterling over 3 times before moving on and that was because of how intriguing it was for me.
The movie was released in 2019 and it is an animated comedy film produced by one of the known movie producers Blue sky studios and based on records, it was distributed by 20th century Fox Entertainment. And, not until I did my findings, I also realized that the voice-over for Walter Beckett (the second protagonist) was done by Tom Holland who I know from the movie Spider-Man Homecoming. Walter Beckett was even more entertaining as the movie unfolded. The fact that Walter was that kid that nobody wanted to associate with, made me love his character.
Sadly, he lost his mother who happened to be a police officer and that didn’t stop him from not trying to save the world, only that this time, Walter seek to save the world without weapons that can end up posing threats to lives. It was so absurd whenever he talked about his gadgets that he had developed because to most people if not everyone, they just felt like he was still young and doesn’t really know how the world works but that wasn’t true at all. I mean, Walter lost his mum to those dangerous weapons and he definitely knows what he was doing, all he needed was someone, just one person to believe in him like his mother did.
Thanks to one of Walter’s inventions, Lance Sterling had little of no choice but to work with the gadget boy, as I call him. If there was one thing I couldn’t help but like about this movie, it was how Walter thinks and how he made things go his way even without knowing it. He was that kid that was just interested in keeping everyone safe and he did his things at his own pace hoping that someday people will come to appreciate his work.
Unfortunately for Lance, he got into a bad situation that made him remember the gadget boy, Walter. And that marked the day they both had to start working together whether or not Lance enjoyed doing things on his own, in his terms, “I fly solo”. Lance had to learn how to do otherwise and that was all thanks to someone he (Lance) fired thrice.
The progression of the movie was quite smooth and in my head, I feel it’s a movie that anyone will enjoy because there was a little of this and that. But strangely, it is hardly ever talked about by anyone and for the records, it’s a privilege to be the one writing about it first or second? here, hehe.
Thanks for reading through. ❤️
