Hello,
For the second evening, it was Ithara and her daughter who chose the film, they took one Virgile and I never saw.
Demolition Man (1993) - source
We watched it on Netflix and as it's from 1993, we were a bit worried that it failed to age nicely.
In the end, it was fine.
The cast includes Sylvester Stallone and Wesley Snipes (on the poster), but also Sandra Bullock and Benjamin Bratt at the beginning of their careers.
For those who do not know the synopsis of this film:
The story begins in 1996 (the future compared to 1993, the year the film was released).
Sergeant John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), nicknamed Demolition Man, is a very good policeman, but he does a lot of damage.
Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is a criminal who has been chased down by John Spartan for years.
Spartan finally succeeds in arresting Phoenix, but Phoenix claims the bodies found, in the fire Spartan booted to catch him, were the innocent hostages he said he had secured.
Phoenix and Spartan are both cryogenically frozen for the duration of their prison sentences.
Thirty-six years later, someone brings Phoenix back to life.
Many things have changed in 36 years, for example, foul language is forbidden and is therefore punished by a fine.
The police no longer have firearms, only electric batons. The firearms are displayed in the museum behind secured glass cases. This kind of life is not appealing to Simon Phoenix of course, especially as he has been given a mission and in order to carry out this task he will have to add some violence to this world.
To deal with this ultra-talented criminal, only a cop with experience in 1996 techniques would be suitable. So it has been decided to bring Sergeant Spartan back to life as well.
During their time in the "fridge", they were given certain skills, which are not the same for all prisoners.
This film lasts 1h45 and the time passes quite quickly, as it is an action (and science fiction) film.
We had a lot of fun watching it, even if it makes us feeling a bit older than we would like to...!
I'm guessing that many of you have seen it, so feel free to say whether you remember it and whether you enjoyed it.
The children have gone home and we are back to our TV evenings for two.
See you soon,
Isiksen
