𝑭𝒂𝒎𝒊𝒍𝒚 𝑻𝒊𝒆𝒔 𝑨𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒉𝒂𝒏𝒄𝒆𝒔: "18 Again" And "Family By Choice" Series Review

in #hive-1217444 days ago

Since I finished these two series, I've been feeling hyped to check out more family related drama series. I thought romance and comedy are my best genres but now, I think I've added one more even though I'm not sure it's called a genre lol. Tiktok hype and one of the lead characters who had always been a supporting cast had me checking out the 2024 series "Family By Choice".

A friend recommended the 2020 series "18 Again" but I decided to see it after reading it's plot and was curious to see how it played out especially the fictional twist. Most importantly, what got me hooked in both series is the family drama and I learnt a lot from each of their storylines. So this is my personal view on both.

This has got to be one of the best I've seen among the many family drama series I've seen, a series that after seeing it, I wonder how it didn't go popular at the time it was released and I haven't seen it until now. I finished the last episode last week and it has been my first recommendation whenever I'm asked for any.

An Ajussi (older man) and his full of dream wife had their twin kids during college so life hasn't been good to them as they struggle to make ends meet. Out of frustration, the Ajussi goes back to where he made the decision to give up on everything (his love for basketball) and he makes a wish he never thought would come to pass.

From becoming young again, being in the same class with his kids and learning about all the ways he has been wrong in parenting and being a good husband, viewers are made to go through interesting and emotional scenes that had us hooked as he navigate the second chance given to him. The lies told are the craziest part of it all.

I enjoyed how progressive things got when he went back to his young self (18 again) and he gradually understood what went wrong. It was almost like we didn't want him to become older again as he became a great friend to his kids after so many funny and crazy scenes to understand that he was his own kids age mate.

The romance aspect of the series was well played, the older woman (his wife) falling for his younger self again was quite impossible but it was interesting to watch and I must say, the chemistry was good owing to the fact that the lady is older and the man is being acted by a younger guy. I'll rate the series 9/10, check it out.

I'm not trying to make this any less better in this list but I definitely enjoyed my time on the first series more than I did on this one. This series is a remake of a Chinese drama "Go Ahead" and I read a lot of reviews that says it was a good watch and many who saw that series says everything in it was similar to this series.

Disregarding that and since I've not seen the Chinese drama, I went ahead to see this one especially to see our lead character "Hwang In-Youp" who I have only seen in supporting roles. The series depict a very beautiful family love story, one that had me hooked for every bit of it.

A single father with his daughter out of love for another family member accepts two sons who were abadoned by their mothers. They grow up together, school together and do everything together until different reasons separates them until after ten years and they are not like the close family they were, romance happened!

While I was hyped about the romance spark between the lead guy and the single father's daughter, I was more than hyped about the love the father had for all his children. I don't think I've seen another series of the character before but he definitely won me as a fan with this series. I know it's just a role but he was so perfect for it.

The chemistry between them as family was so good that it felt real to me watching them act. I also couldn't stop laughing in a lot of it's scenes, but I must say I just couldn't bring myself to like the character that played one of the mothers, her toxic relationship with her son had me off a bit. In any case, it's a series I'll recommend with 8/10.

"18 Again" is the drama I kept on my list and I already watched "Go Ahead". So, I am not going to watch the second drama as it's the remake of it.

Yeah, I won't advice anyone see a remake if they've seen the first already. I hope you enjoy 18 Again.
