The whole backstory behind my experience in seeing this film franchise have been nothing short of some funny drama. There's a series I've been following up since I can't remember and now, I'm waiting impatiently for the season 3 of it (XO Kitty). In the process of waiting, I discovered a film franchise that the star character is a part of and that is "To All The Boys I've Loved Before".
So you could say I never may have seen these sequels if not for the series I got so interested in. The other backstory is, I watched these sequel backwards, from the last one on this list to the first on the list... It's weirder than you may think and if you've seen them then you'd totally understand what I mean by the weird experience.
Now, I'm wondering why I didn't check the dates they were released, I only focused on the storyline and my main reason for seeing them so I downloaded and was sure I was seeing the first released one before the next and just like that, I saw the last one (being the first) and the origin of all I've been seeing just clicked, I was speechless even to myself and just let the whole thing go lol.
To All The Boys I've Loved - 2018
This started out like a fairytale being told, a dreamy girl who have a crush on five guys when she was little, writes love letters directed to them but she keeps the letters in a box hidden in her room. More like, a confession she doesn't want to make known yet but she failed to think of the risk of someone else seeing those letters and trying to help her love life, that's where Kitty come in.
With all five letters out, she is faced with the guys who are surprised to get such a letter from her, one out of them is a gay, another is an ex to her elder sister and the other who came with the letter has just broken from a relationship with his girlfriend. How she navigated through to find love in all this chaos gave the satisfaction to viewers and I love the role by kitty (the star from XO kitty).
To All The Boys: P.S I Still Love You - 2020
When we thought it was over, I mean, Lara Jean (the lead character) thought things are great with her new boyfriend until the last letter that was sent got to the receiver, to John Ambrose and another love drama unfolds when he volunteered at the same place with her. Considering the fact that it was her first time in a relationship but it wasn't a first for Peter Kavinsky (her boyfriend), she started to feel something for John Ambrose.
That gave the storyline a twist for me as I started to hope that things would work out for her and John Ambrose. You know that feeling of excitement and guilty together? Yeah, I felt that way but I'm glad they at least got to kiss and the true feelings came out. The breakup in this story was necessary and I like the scene of them getting back together, lovely attire they wore! Lol.
To All The Boys I've Loved Always And Forever - 2021
I saw this one first and I have to confess, I loved it more than the other two before this sequel. It's Lara Jean trying all she can to attend same college with Peter Kavinsky, her boyfriend but it was like everything else was against their romantic plan. They ended up in different college and she fell in love with New York, like 3000 miles away from where her boyfriend is schooling.
There's no sequel coming up after this but I think I understand why viewers are hoping for one no matter how long it'd take. We'd like to see how they'll cope in different colleges far from each other especially as they made up right before this sequel ended. Peter Kavinsky did a cool cameo in XO Kitty and gave some hint on what's going on between him and Lara Jean, things are good.
Conclusively, even though I saw the movies in the wrong and weird order, I enjoyed the storyline in each of them and anyone could actually see only one of them and still find the happy ending they want to see. Soon, I'll review my recent favourite series and the reason you're seeing this review, XO Kitty. It's a must watch but before that, have fun checking out this film franchise I rate 8/10.
