I just concluded this series and I would say, it's a happy ending one if anybody is looking to see one as this. It is set in the Joseon era as the name implies with a focus on matchmaking, love and royalty. A clip I saw on YouTube revealing that Park Ji-hoon from "Love Song For Illusion" and Byeon Woo-seok from "Lovely Runner" are in the series got me interested almost immediately.
I won't go into too much about the series that you'd find online aside the part that it is a 2019 Korean series with 16 episodes. But I'll be focusing on what I had hoped for and how much I enjoyed my time on this one, hopefully it won't come off to you as spoilers because even with all what I'll share now, it was still worth my time.
The series started off by introducing the three beautiful male matchmakers called The Flower Crew in the Joseon era and their great impact in marriages as they had never had a fail with every couple they make. Their details were being told to a blacksmith young guy who seem to be very happy to have found such people exist in the village. He decides to make his move towards marrying a girl who has been like a family to him.
Any viewer who saw the series down to the episode of the marriage ceremony would predict correctly that the marriage would not happen but how it was going to be cancelled is what will have us hooked for more episodes. It turns out, the blacksmith is the King of the land and there was no better day to take him back to the palace other than his wedding day to the love of his life.
Talk of a first fail in bringing a couple together, the flower crew refuses to give up on their clients and they go on a search to find the missing groom who after a while shows up as His Majesty. Meanwhile, there are catching feelings moments between the leader of flower crew and the abandoned bride, fashion show of Park Ji-hoon and musical display by Byeon Woo-seok.
I don't know about other viewers but for so many reasons I can't even start mentioning, this is one of those series I wish the second male lead gets the girl and they go live happily ever after, his love was well expressed in the story that anyone would wish him well to win over the girl. But we can only just watch and hope for a happy ending after all, the male lead got the girl as expected.
The supporting role of Byeon Woo-seok with the strict face and too upright noble lady (played by Go Won-Hee) in the series was beautiful, a sweet side of the story that I kept rooting for to end well and it did. The writer did well to make sure each of the matchmaker has a story behind their present life and they each had a good ending.
Oh there are villains in this series as expected in stories set in the Joseon era but this one comes with good twists favouring the protagonists and scenes to keep you hooked for more and of course, it was a satisfying end to them but you should see it to know how satisfying it would be for you. I'll give it a 8/10 rating for the unique storyline and well played roles by characters.
Will you check this one out? I really hope you do.
