When I first saw the announcement of this movie and that it starred Jamie Foxx, I thought "Aha! Another effort to capitalize on the fact that Foxx fell sick and is now back in the show business action."
I think most of us know about the time in 2024 when Foxx went viral for being in some bad health condition. There were so many rumours surrounding it. Many funny stuff like some saying the powers that be in Hollywood are trying to silence him and some Illuminati shenanigans like that.
As soon as he got well, Netflix announced a Jamie Foxx comedy special titled "What had Happened Was". That was a sleek move, clearly to capitalize on all the rumors and viral sickness bout. We get to hear what really happened from the horse's mouth.
It was NOT an impressive show, even though I love Jamie Foxx. I could only watch about half of it before I couldn't take anymore. I'll probably go back to it.
But it was really bad. All the cries, sadness, and pauses Foxx did on stage were clearly scripted. And you don't want the sadness a survivor shows when telling his story to be scripted because it all begins to feel fake and you start to doubt them.
This dude was telling his story but it all seemed like he was acting and trying to hard to make it dramatic. There were even points where some poignant music was scripted to come on, some sound effects and thunder was introduced too, like what in the hell, dude? We thought this actually meant a lot to you. LOL.
So once I saw Back in Action, I had huge doubts, and suspected it was also a poorly made movie with emphasis on capitalizing on the whole ailment debacle rather than an effort to make a good movie.
But I watched it regardless, and I loved it! It was good. A few unbelievable fight scenes, but in general it was good enough. The choreography most of the time was great, the story was good, and the acting was great.
It was nice to see they didn't mess this one up.
There are many spy stories that kinda toe the line this movie did, but the movie somehow managed to standout, and stay suspenseful and entertaining. With a lot of jokes here and there.
There were also little twists that makes spy movies great, the ones here were good enough. Not so hard hitting, but worthy enough.
In all, it was a good experience and if you're one of the people thinking this might just be another clumsy attempt to capitalize on Foxx's 2024 situation you're wrong about the clumsy part. It was a good movie.
