It's always the romcoms that end up being adapted badly.. It's literally 90% always that genre. I was randomly scrolling through Pinterest then I saw this movie cover pop up.

It was familiar cause I thought I'd seen a similar name on Wattpad before. I really had nothing to do at that time so I decide to watch the movie. One of the first things I noticed on starting the film was the Wattpad/webtoon icon. I was confused and curious if what I was about to watch was a Wattpad story adaption or a webtoon adaption. But if it was a comic sort of thing, would'nt it be an animation? The collaboration studio was crazy. I didn't know they had a studio together.
I decided to just let it surprise me instead of being too curious and checking the internet for information about the movie. It has a cliche beginning. Cheerleading and an athletic male character, football particularly. Plus, the name of the movie is a huge give-away and spoiler too. It reveals so much already. You just know it's predictable already. But what's that saying,"Do not judge a book by it's cover", I said to myself multiple times. Wait for it to cook. Trust the process.
Sidelined:The QB and Me released on the 29th of November 2024. It's an adaption of the Wattpad story,"Sidelined:The QB Bad Boy and Me". The movie revolves around Dallas Byran. Dallas is a dancer and also a high schooler. Her brother, Nathan(played by Dre Tay Tanner) is hired as the new football coach at Archwood High. This causes a transfer from where they were, to somewhere different,Texas. This is also where her best friend was attending(fortunately for her). Dallas is part of the cheerleading team and somehow catches the attention of the star quarterback of the football team. He is an incredibly hot and charming star player of the Archwood wolves and one of the best players in the whole town. He's also cocky and rich.
Dreyton Lahey develops some sort of attraction towards Dallas and tries to win her. Dallas is not having it and chooses to not let him have what he wants. She sees him as cocky, things he's above the rule and full of himself. They're a bad match,so she said.
There's really nothing much to the movie asides that. It's a good adaption. Although, the story is better. So much better. They removed the point about Dreyton being a badboy in the movie. In the book, he's a bad boy. There's so much reasons for her to not want a relationship with him. But in the movie, her reasons are mostly driven by her ambition of getting into this high prestigious dance academy and not wanting any distractions in her life. Plus she had only a year in school left,no time to be all lovey-dovey before they both have to go their separate ways.

Overall, I'd rate this movie a 5.5/10. It was a basic movie, pretty predictable and everything. No plot twist, no sudden thing of interest, it wasn't really captivating. It was something to pass time with. I rated it low, doesn't really mean it's bad. Some part of the acting was horrible, the storyline was too easy. But it was a really comfortable movie to watch. It was satisfying and heartwarming in a way. It's a decent movie..
The book is definitely better.
Thanks for reading
