Hello friends. In today's post, I will share a short list of films that seduce me visually. It could be just the cinematography or it could also be the direction itself but I am particularly enchanted by these movies.
These are not in order because they all have different tastes.
I will start with The Room. The Room is one of those rare films that has terrible acting and screenplay but it still managed to deliver an entertaining film. It was produced by Tommy Wiseau. He said he invested his own money and borrowed some from other people for this movie. To date, it is considered as one of the worst movies ever made.
But despite its poor production quality, The Room is a very enjoyable film. It has a unique sense of humor that you cannot find anywhere else. The plot is farfetched but it still manages to entertain everyone.
And I really like how it looks. The Room is shot in black-and-white. The characters' outfits are simple and classic. And the background is always dark so that the actors can stand out more. There is almost no color at all except for the red carpet and some colors on the walls. Even the soundtrack is very minimalistic. In a way, it reminds me of some Japanese anime movies. And while the visuals may not look appealing, it definitely makes the scenes more dramatic and engaging.
Another example would be The Girl With All the Gifts. The Girl With All the Gifts is a zombie movie that I liked. It is an adaptation of a novel written by M.R. Carey.
I love the visuals in this movie. While the zombies look funny and grotesque, the movie managed to capture their characters perfectly. They feel real; they feel alive.
The Girl With All the Gifts is shot in a documentary-like format. The camera angles were creative and they captured every single detail of the world that they created. And considering the budget used for this movie, I think that's already something impressive.
This film is very similar to The Walking Dead in terms of the plot. And if you are looking for a zombie flick that is not too gory and gross then you should watch this movie.
Finally, we have A Monster Calls. A Monster Calls is based on the book written by Patrick Ness. It is about an English boy named Conor whose mother died during childbirth. His dad is away working overseas which left him alone at home.
Conor has a monster that visits his house every night. It tells him stories that will help him deal with his problems and pain. A Monster Calls is one of my favorite animated movies. Unlike most kids' movies, it does not rely on cute characters or catchy songs. Instead, it focuses on the story. It is also very realistic even though the monsters look like weird creatures.
The visuals are beautiful. The movie uses mostly green hues and bright colors. And there are some scenes where the camera pans across the forest, giving us a glimpse of the land that Conor lives in. A Monster Calls is a beautiful movie that I highly recommend.
