Hey guys of Cinetv, this is my first post here, I decided to start with a review of The Terminator, a movie I’ve seen so many times since I was little and one of my favorites films of all times.

Even though this is a somewhat old movie, the terminator is still a good example that despite of a low budget, you can make a remarkable movie as long as the crew has the creativity, talent and passion to tell an interesting story.

From the first minute that manages to catch the viewers attentions to a perfect well measured rhythm, it seems fascinating to me how James Cameron, the director who was a newbie at the time, had the skills to tell a plot with some complexity and well complemented with action and suspenseful scenes that bring you to edge of your seat, he also managed to add some moments of terror to give the sensation of disquiet and sadness, thanks to the film’s post-apocalyptic themes.

Arnold Schwarzenegger, with his unnatural expressions and rigid movements while playing the terminator, makes the ambience of the movie uncanny, especially because his character starts getting damaged and his appearance deteriorating and becoming creepier. In retrospective, this seems very curious now because the first time I watched the movie this had no effect on me, maybe because I was very little and couldn’t understand the context of what was happening, while other movies like Predator did scare me as a child, but that ‘s a topic for another time.

Now I can help but mention that this movie was made almost 40 years ago, the way the film tells its plot has aged quite well, I really like this concept of a inhuman enemy force that seems indestructible and that can’t be stopped until it accomplishes its mission, I also think that the development of the story never makes it feel as if the protagonists are conveniently favored by the plot in any point, it makes more apparent how the characters are doing everything they can to survive in extreme situations when faced with the implacable and unstoppable figure of the Terminator that chases them.

But the movie doesn’t’ stop at hooking you with its action plot sparkled with terror elements, since Cameron included some social criticism, like the easy access to firearms, I’m talking about the scene in which the Terminator enters a firearms store so casually as if he was buying groceries or the theme of nuclear warfare, something that worried the 80s generation a lot because of the several conflicts among countries that had this type of weapons, and although it wasn’t the primary point of the movie, it also brings attention to the automation of human work being replaced by machinery, something that has become quite relevant lately.

Definitely, the terminator is to me a real classic, with a very distinct audiovisual language and identity; this is a cinematographic masterpiece that even though it may not have aged the best when it comes to the special effects, its somber plot and the surviving themes that the characters go through making them feel more human still captivates me.
