PLOT SUMMARY

This movie, 'Once Upon a Honeymoon', is about a newly-wedded couple, Sodineye Brown and Pearl Brown.
Both seemingly inseparable, Sodi and Pearl are madly in love. Their commitment and devotion to each other would be put to the test in the early days of their marriage as they went to spend their honeymoon -ponsored by their friends- at a resort (Harmony Villa).

MY THOUGHTS

While this movie had a promising start with a beautiful storyline, which we, however, have seen told in a plethora of ways in many Nollywood movies, the plot was weak, I dare say.

Firstly, for a virgin who supposedly had sex for the first time on her wedding night, although I kind of understood her frustration to a certain degree, I feel that her later outbursts became exaggerated.

If she started to be that frustrated months after their wedding, it would have been believable. Not almost immediately. That’s a turn-off.

Diane’s interpretation of that role, for the most part, gave the vibes of a baddie who has had multiples and multiples of body counts before getting married. It's not one of a virgin in the very least.

During their marriage counseling sessions, were there no sex talks enough to explain to them that sex isn’t always about the thrusting? And for how much they appeared to be into each other, one would think that sex (though important) was the major reason for their union.

Secondly, let’s talk about Osas’s character. There just had to be an ex squeezed into the film. Now, the first time Osas came visiting the newly weds at their apartment in the resort, Pearl did not give any indication that she knew Osas. Then, out of the blues, we are told there’s an ex! That wasn’t smooth!

Thirdly, there I was thinking there was something mysterious about the gift Osas gave to the couple which later turned out to be part of a subplot which added nothing to the main plot no matter how hard they tried.
Someone gives you a key (without a note), and the next thing that comes to your mind is “The Treasure Chest!" Just how!?

And coming to the lessons from the film... The importance of big butts for how it turned Sodi on all of a sudden? Or that when faced with sex problems a few days into your marriage, the wife who was once a virgin runs to her ex? It's just gross.

All the kissing, smooshing, and all that became tiring, to be honest. The acting didn’t do it for me, especially from Diane. She’s beautiful, no doubt, but I feel there was a disconnect between her acting and her speech mannerisms. Something seemed off to me. It wasn’t believable to a large extent.

The duration, too, did not help matter as it made things worse with the movie becoming boring with all of the dialogues and back and forth.

There were inconsistencies in the scripting, too, but I’d rather not go into that.

Overall, if you’d like to watch something about kissing with overly amplified audio sounds and effects, nothing serious, here’s a movie for you!
Had the producers and directors paid proper attention to details, especially with the plot and characterisation, in my opinion, this would have turned out better.
I'll rate this a 3.5

This looks like a movie I would actually want to watch cause this is not the first time I've seen someone talk about it here, so I really hope it's not that bad. Thank you for sharing, though.✨
