Jujutsu Kaisen (2020 -)

Waiting for the next episode is one of the most awful feelings I can imagine.

I often lose interest in certain shows if it's airing and there are a few more seasons awaiting release. If the show is done airing all episodes, that's better for me. There's a reason why I mentioned this. About 2 years ago, I heard about this anime series but it had just finished airing the first season. Then there was silence - 2 years long. And now the second season is ongoing. I wonder if I should have waited a few more years and season. The show I'm talking about is Jujutsu Kaisen. As I said before, the second season is ongoing and there's also a movie Jujutsu Kaisen 0 for some backstory.

When it's anime, I don't know what to follow. I'm clueless about writers and directors but if I had any then probably I'd not have to suffer so much. But there's no point in dwelling on that. As I was shuffling through all the lists of anime shows, I saw this familiar title. I had only heard its name and no backstory. Then I did a little bit of digging and again found out the awful thing I mentioned in the beginning. Also, I stumbled upon the movie but also realized it's a sort of a backstory and only some of the characters from the series are involved - also a different protagonist. I started with the movie first and then watched the series. Some confusion arose during the first season and a few things are getting cleared up as the series progresses.

I have seen quite a few movies and series and one thing that I came to see often was that there are main characters and there are supporting characters, and also there are characters that are made redundant. Either these redundant characters were just there as fillers or their characters didn't get the chance. The thing that stood out to me in this series is that there are a bunch of good characters. Not only that, some small characters have also had a chance to shine, and as far as I can see the filler characters didn't seem out of place or unnecessary. Every character has a part to play and has enough visibility.

If I must pick a favorite character, I'll not pick the major characters - I mean they are MCs. But there's one character that needs mentioning that is Mahito. This guy is both diabolical and incredibly strong. He is one of the primary antagonists but I find him the wickedest. Even with all his wicked tricks, he's very trusted by his comrades. So far he has been badly wounded and defeated once but he's almost unkillable and is said to have room to grow more powerful. A trusted friend and a wicked foe - Mahito is a character worth mentioning.

The latest episode just released yesterday and I'm losing my already little patience. Perhaps my impatience is also a sign of my fondness for it. Jujutsu Kaisen is entertaining thus far I can only imagine what the upcoming seasons will look like. What's funniest to me are the tidbits at the very end of the show. You can start with the series first or the movie but be sure to watch the movie as it holds some very important information regarding the series.

And now, I wait for the next Thursday.
