The world is filled with languages and words, occupying our circumferences to educate ourselves to communicate and understand each other. Once we are not able to use words properly, even our closest of friends become strangers. The only clear message that can be delivered in this 21st century, is none other than through words. This connects me to the infamous place for word games, courtrooms.
As a child I was always fond of courtroom and watching them in movies was a common way of learning about it. I still don't know why I admire courtrooms but just the thought of it being a place of JUSTICE, made me glued to my seats, whenever the scenes played. One of my favourites of favourite scenes of courtrooms would be from Pink (2016) and Veer-Zaara (2004). Most of you might have enjoyed Jolly LLB 1 and 2, but I am yet to watch them, so can't talk about them. I have heard that the movies were great.
Certain movies move you and certain movies entertain you, but from all you perceive what you choose to perceive or what your soul connects with. That is the beauty of movies.
Why did I choose Pink (2016)?
Courtrooms are the places for justice is what I have thought all my life but the reality is quite different, specially in countries where everything is corrupted, even the air that you breathe. Pink is the sort of movie that will make you question the very basis of what is common sense. It will push you to think what is justice and if it is even important. It pushed me to the edge, where I didn't even know if the laws are to be changed or if words can successfully be manipulated?
I was repetitively brought back to what is meant to be a human. I was met with my cores and believes as I saw the movie till the very end. I can now say that I am a human who believes that even if everything is at stake, it is worth to save a life than save emotions or anything else.
While your own wife is sick and nearly dying, seasawing between life and death, will you leave her? Being a retired lawyer or worker, would you still return just to save a life or few, even when your only companion on this Earth is dying? Will you leave her even for a second?
Why did I choose Veer-Zaara (2004)?
The many of you who have watched this movie is thinking how stupid and obnoxious I am to bring a romantic movie in the midst of talking seriously about trial films. It is true that my taste buds are quite here and there, but I truly belive that no movie can stand a chance against the court scenes presented in Verr-Zaara.
Everytime I talk about Veer-Zaara, tears start rolling from my eyes and my vision is blurred, even now. The court did not give justice but the court did give justice after more than 22 years. A place of justice can only stay like that until the people of that place can stick to it. Until they have the capabilities to stand for justice. If you are there for play, if you are there for injustice, how can anyone get justice? This movie plays a major role in making one realize the importance of giving justice.
When the world is already crushing you way too much, will you rather take a chance in choosing a difficult case or will you choose a much lighter one? Will you take the risk even when you have no one to help nor comfort you, and this being your first attempt to prove yourself? Will you risk it all just for a stranger, an outsider?
The impactual scene in Pink (2016):
The most impactual scenes in the entire movie were the court scenes where repetatively the ladies were accused of being characterless while men shoved of statements which apparently were general ideas. In addition, Deepak Sehgal, the old lawyer mentions about an important manual for girls safety, "The girls' safety manual". The safety manual was a way he could bring in light of where the truth lies but not even once did he ever claim that he was right. His wife passed away but not even once did he let his emotions take the good of him. In the court he spoke nothing but the truth, he asked nothing but straight questions, he was clear from his point and never flinced, and his words were simple and powerful till the very end.
The most painful scene in Veer-Zaara (2004):
On the other hand, in Veer-Zaara, the most painful and memorable courtscene was the last scene of the movie, when Veer meets Zaara finally and he recites his poem, words truly echoed. Veer lost his adulthood and there was no one to save him, and his mistakes were that he fell in love with a girl who was not his nations, and he was stuck in her nation forever. He wasn't guilty of his act, he just sacrificed his entire life for the safety of his beloved as he was threatened. In opposition, his beloved sacrificed her adulthood to save his dream, his nation, leaving hers, believing that he is dead. None know if the other is actually safe unless a lady lawyer who has her own struggles living, chooses to make this her first case. The best part of this movie isn't that love is sweet and everything, it is more about how selfless we humans can become once we start caring.
Deduction:
An aged man fought to save 3 lives because he had the power of words for justice. On the other hand, a young lady fought to save a life because she had the power of words for justice too. Both the movies pass a clear message that I could sycn with while I was writing. Both of them consists of morally and ethically strong humans, who fought not for themselves but for others, for justice. We often think why to help others when we ourselves are in distress, but we easily forget that being selfless is a part of being human. We are kind, we are loving and we are passionate to help others in distress. It is a part of being human, it is not an extra hassle.
The End!
