Bienvenidos sean todos a una nueva clase-tutorial de inglés. El día de hoy vamos a ver dos temas muy sencillos pero que uno de ellos requiere de mucha práctica para dominarlo: la hora y los colores.
Welcome to a new English tutorial class. Today we are going to look at two very simple topics, but one of them requires a lot of practice to master: time and colours.
¿Alguna vez te has preguntado qué es lo más difícil de aprender inglés? Muchos han dicho que lo más difícil a la hora de aprenderlo es la hora porque la mayoría se confunde o no entiende cuando usar el PAST y el TO o simplemente porque a muchos nos cuesta restar los minutos que faltan para la siguiente hora –me incluyo-
Have you ever wondered what is the most difficult thing about learning English? Many have said that the hardest thing to learn is the time because most people get confused or don't understand when to use PAST and TO or simply because many of us find it difficult to subtract the minutes to the next hour - myself included - but I've also said that the most difficult thing to learn is the time.
La verdad es que lo más difícil es dejar de pensar en español, ¿Qué quiero decir con esto? Nosotros estamos constantemente pensando una oración en español para luego traducirla en nuestra mente palabra por palabra y he ahí el error que incluso yo sigo cometiendo. El por qué hacemos esto es debido a que pensamos que la estructura del inglés y el español es la misma pero no es así.
The truth is that the most difficult thing is to stop thinking in Spanish, what do I mean by this? We are constantly thinking a sentence in Spanish and then translating it in our mind word for word and that is the mistake that even I keep making. Why we do this is because we think that the structure of English and Spanish is the same but it is not.
El inglés es mucho más estructurado, si o si en cada oración hay que incluir el sujeto acompañado del verbo o un auxiliar, en cambio en español no importa si lo obviamos.
La traducción del inglés al español y viceversa no siempre tendrá coherencia precisamente por estas diferencias en la estructura. Por ello, lo más importante no es conocer palabra por palabra o traducir una oración exactamente palabra por palabra, lo importante es entender el concepto y si desconocemos alguna palabra siempre está la opción de parafrasear.
English is much more structured, and every sentence must include the subject with the verb or an auxiliary, whereas in Spanish it doesn't matter if we leave it out.
The translation from English to Spanish and vice versa will not always be coherent precisely because of these differences in structure. Therefore, the most important thing is not to know word for word or to translate a sentence exactly word for word, the important thing is to understand the concept and if we do not know a word there is always the option of paraphrasing.
Así que a la próxima que intentes responder cualquier pregunta en inglés, no importa si tienes algún error de sintaxis o usaste el auxiliar equivocado, lo importante es que la otra persona entiende lo que estas tratando de decirle: ANIMATE A EQUIVOCARTE, ¡yo lo hago!
So the next time you try to answer any question in English, it doesn't matter if you have a syntax error or you used the wrong auxiliary, the important thing is that the other person understands what you are trying to tell them: DARE TO MISTAKE, I do!
