A young man died recently in my neighbourhood because of choking while taking his dinner. It was an uncertain turn of event, which no one is expected. This also highlights that our life is uncertain because we cannot predict the future, meaning unexpected events, both positive and negative, can happen at any time, making it inherently unpredictable and a natural part of the human experience. We have limited control over external factors that can drastically change our lives. Still people always keep bothering about their undesired wishes. Here is a beautiful transcript from our ancient Sanskrit which highlight human wishes around the uncertainty that surrounds our life:
अधिष्ठानं समिच्छन्ति ह्यचलं निर्बले सति|
संसारे सर्वभूतानां तृणबिन्दुवदस्थिरे||
Adhishthaanaam samicchanti hyachalam nirbale sati,
Sansaare sarvabhootaanaaam trunabinduvadasthire.
Adhishthaanam = abode, support.
Samicchanti = sam + icchanti.
sam = together.
Icchanti = desire, wish.
Hyachalam = hi + achalam.
Hi = surely.
Achalam = constantly, steadily.
Nirbale = weak, powerless.
Sansare = in this World.
Sarvabhootaanaam = all living beings.
Trunabinduvadasthire = trunabinduvat + ashhire.
Trunavinduvat = like a drop of water at the end of a grass blade.
Asthire = shaking, unstable, uncertain.
"Weak and powerless persons always desire that they live a constantly happy life, but they have no idea that all living beings in this World live in uncertainty like a drop of water at the end of a grass blade, which can drop at any time".
Time is constantly moving forward, meaning situations and circumstances are always evolving, making it hard to predict what will happen next. Live in the moment and appreciate the current situation rather than dwelling on potential future uncertainties. Accept that change is inevitable and learn to navigate it effectively.
