The Cancer Called Facebook

in #hive-1223152 years ago

A couple of days ago I had a post taking about Hive and why I see it as being a different type of dopamine when compared with other social networks and in that post I mentioned about Facebook being a hideous way of deteriorating one's mental health. Most Facebook users are overlooking what I'm about to tackle in this post.

Facebook has been advertised as being a "social media platform" where you can make new friends, keep in touch with your current ones and "live the world through their eyes". Well, this is where all the shit starts from...

Seeing the world through someone else's eyes. No matter how you put it, you(not necessarily you as a reader) and 99% of Facebook users are going to feel inferior to most of the individuals they will follow on such a garbage social media app.

Whether we're talking material, sentimental, or spiritual fulfilling, that one bastard in your feed is always gonna look like is doing better than you, which in most cases won't actually be the case, but such a sense of constant inferiority can affect one's self-esteem and drive for becoming a better version of oneself, in such a bad way.

Social media, Facebook, and Instagram especially are full of fake models. Most of the beauties that have become facebook/Instagram models are fake(silicone, hyaluronic acid, etc), and most of the masculine ones are fake too(steroids, editing apps, etc). What does the majority go after when looking all day long at such models?

To become like them. In most cases that won't happen because the majority neither does have the funds to support such changes, not the genes and neither the will and determination to work on themselves to at least become their own best versions instead of trying to become what others are.

Living in such a constant sense of unfulfillment and disappointment triggered by constant comparison with these models and failed attempts of becoming like them, is often times going to lead to depression, low self esteem, obesity and even suicide...

Most of the people that post on Facebook have created themselves a fake life in that virtual realm... There can't be that much happiness and well-being in one place all day every day...:), you know, but somehow some seem to be in that position. Life doesn't work that way, life sometimes is full of shit and portraying youserlf as "living the life" is gonna lead in throwing some cancerous habits and important life issues under the carpet which will at some point get really nasty.

Facebook/Instagram is addictive, I can tell that from my own experience. It's also non productive as hell. Probably less than 1% of these platforms users are earning shit from their tons hours spent every day consuming and posting content through such apps. 99.9% of the Hive users are earning cryptocurrency by doing pretty much the same thing.

I guess you knew that by now ;).

Facebook is bad dopamine, cuz of the novelty it offers and the urge it triggers on its users to consume more of that shit while Hive is good dopamine. You don't get educated on Facebook cuz facebook belongs to the establishemnt and algorithms created by the elites are filtering what should and will reach your eye sight through facebook.

With Hive we have a whole different situation. We get to deal with an unfiltered world here. The way I see it people are more straightforward, photos are less edited, the sense of community is way stronger than the one on facebook and you don't have any type of censorship on this platform.

Hive is an open minder, at least that's how I perceive it, and Facebook is a cage that one openly decides to enter and not leave until probably too late. I don't have any data to support what I am about to say, but I believe probably 30%-40% of the mental disorders, especially in the cases of the young ones are due to too much social media consumption.

My life has changed so much since I quit that garbage and I'm so happy to have found Hive just a few months afterwards. We don't need facebook, we can connect without it, be social even when it comes to online engagement in so many other ways and we definitely don't need the fake models and narratives that are widely spread and idolized on Facebook/Instagram.

While Facebook is making you a product, with Hive you have the chance to make it a product ;). Think of that for a bit and how are you gonna profit from both scenarios... This post is probably too bitter for a Sunday afternoon but I had it on my heart and had to "chain that on my blog". Wish you all a great day ahead and see you next time.

Thanks for your attention,
Adrian

I'm glad that I ended up quitting Fakebook long before I came over to hive. I think it's been close to 6 years since I've been on that cancer and I'm really happy to be that way! It's definitely the cause of a lot of issues nowadays.

Nifty way with words at the end, Hive we certainly make it a product! I've got a post coming out in a few days though, where I am unsure if this is for better or for worse.

Facebook's business model is fundamentally immoral, it business practices are anti-competitive and it is destroying the mental health of billions.

That's why I'm suing it for everything its got.
Next hearing in Crypto Class Action is next week.

Admirable. Wish you luck with your trial!

this is damn true..

I agree, most on those platforms are giving away their content and attention, while here on Hive can earn for both. Well said.

Interesting. I hadn't thought about the negative effects of seeing people who are doing better then you every day. It makes ense that it would be demoralizing, and consume time that wold be better spent making ourselves into the best version of us. Good points. I use Twiter and YouTUbe, but the constant stream of ads from people who are millionaires is demoralizing and now that I think of it, distracting.

I escaped the Facebook gulag years ago, I have only a parking spot there. As for Instagram I've been linking to Hive. Using hashtags; earncrypto and hivefixesthis in my posts.

I wouldn't get back to Facebook and Instagram for anything in the world.

My feeble attempt to get others out of their Matrix world.

It's okay

Indeed. My previous years on facebook presented me with jealousy, anger and the pressure to go with the trend. What it did not presented to me though is the opportunity to improve or be a better person.
