Cigar Review: Rojas Unfinished Business
Wrapper: Ecuador Sumatra
Binder: Nicaragua
Filler: Mexico & Nicaragua
Length: 5″
Ring Gauge: 50
Vitola: Robusto
The Look: Packaged in 16 count black boxes with a copper Rojas logo which is also on the cigar band. Additionally the cigar has a secondary band denoting the line Unfinished Business. The dark wrapper cigar reminds me more of San Andres visibly and I was shocked to learn it was Sumatra after I smoked it. The foot is partially covered on this box pressed cigar that has no voids of tobacco and an above average weight.
The Notes: The cold draw has a subtle nuttiness to it with a hint of cocoa powder while the aroma off the foot has a rich chocolate component much like German chocolate cake. Once the cigar its lit while directly pulling from the Unfinished Business to taste the wrapper from the light there are initial notes of marzipan which lingers for the first few puffs. For those who don’t know what marzipan is, it made from sugar, honey and almonds.
As we smoke the robusto Unfinished Business the marzipan notes begin to fade although some notes of almonds remain with nuances of white pepper, mocha and espresso which lingers on the finish. As the cigar approaches the halfway point notes of mocha begin to emerge with a subtle leather appearing on the finish of the cigar which is fairly lengthy.
As we move past the halfway point the cigar begins to remind me of a Mallomar with elements of dark chocolate, marshmallows and graham cracker. The pepper takes on more of a black pepper feel to it with a continued leathery finish.
The Finish: The Rojas Unfinished Business starts out medium/full but finishes closer to full. It’s a complex balanced smoke with delicious flavor profile both sweet and savory creating an enjoyable experience. Rojas is one of the top new cigar makers on the cigar market today that seems to have the Midas touch. It’s a cigar that is box worthy and a manufacturer worth keeping your eye on.
