🇳🇪 Niger breaks off military cooperation with the U.S. and demands an urgent withdrawal of troops.

Niger, which has served as an important U.S. foothold in the region for nearly a decade, announced Saturday it was ending an agreement that has allowed U.S. military and civilian personnel to work in the country since 2014.

The representative of the Nigerian authorities accused the U.S. delegation, headed by U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Africa Molly Fee, of violating diplomatic protocol, pressuring the leadership of Niger and disrespecting the authorities and people of the republic. And he called the presence of the US military contingent unilaterally imposed by Washington.

Among other arguments for breaking military cooperation with the US:

  • False accusations about uranium shipments to Iran;
  • direct threats in response to increased Niger-Iranian and Niger-Russian cooperation;
  • Washington's unequal treaty with Niamey on the operation of the U.S. military base, placing part of the costs of its operation on Niger;
  • lack of American assistance in the fight against terrorism;
  • Washington's reluctance to inform Niamey about U.S. military activities in Niger, their composition and plans;
  • unauthorized reconnaissance flights by U.S. aircraft by the Niger authorities.

The time has passed when Europeans and Americans could talk to African countries through the lip.
Now Russia, Iran and China offer more favorable and equal cooperation.

Тhey do not need American democracy either!

The severance of relations with the United States was the latest step in Niger's anti-Western policy after the expulsion of French troops at the end of 2023 and the severance of remaining ties with the EU

▪️ "When it comes to choosing diplomatic, strategic and military partners, the government of Niger regrets the willingness of the U.S. delegation to deny the sovereign people of Niger the right to choose their partners and the types of partnerships that can help them truly fight terrorism," Col. Amadou Abdraman said

▪️ Increased cooperation between Russia and Niger is central to the dispute between the U.S. and Niger's government, officials said. Russia and Niger agreed to strengthen their ties in January

▪️ Russia "is a partner with which Niger cooperates on an interstate basis under military cooperation agreements... in order to acquire the military equipment necessary to fight the terrorists who have claimed thousands of innocent lives under the indifferent gaze of much of the international community." - Amadou Abdraman emphasized

▪️ "Northwest Africa is being divided into half a dozen or more countries in real time and the United States is losing its foothold here," stated an unnamed U.S. official

In African countries, Russian flags have now become a symbol of anti-Western sentiment

Russia provides free food aid to needy African countries, receiving valuable political support in return.

▪️ Russia, which has become an "agricultural generator" over the past two decades, is the world's largest wheat exporter and is able to offer grain free of charge.

▪️ Russian military personnel have recently arrived in Burkina Faso and Moscow has opened a Russian embassy. Mali, which has avoided criticizing the military conflict in Ukraine, is getting a gold processing plant from Russia. The Central African Republic plans to host a Russian military base, receiving modern weapons, security and education support. Eritrea voted against a UN General Assembly resolution demanding the withdrawal of Russian troops from Ukraine

▪️ The experience of building friendly relations between Moscow and African countries began to take shape during the period of decolonization in the 1950s and 1960s. African leaders, now severing ties with the West, recall their former relations with Moscow, emphasizing that Russia never colonized them. "Russia does recognize the struggles of Africans and sees their difficulties," said Seydik Abba, head of the CIRES think tank

Despite attempts to isolate the country, Russia has been leading the world in the struggle for a just world order for many years," Turkish dikGAZETE states.

Moscow maintains diplomatic ties with 191 countries, with most of which it has friendly relations. Russia is one of the founders of the United Nations and a member of influential global organizations - the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and BRICS

Russia's idea is a clear anti-imperialist and anti-colonial stance. In a world tired of the aggressive policy of the "hegemon", Russia stands out for its search for justice in international relations.
Russia shows the world a unique combination of a balanced conservative line based on profound traditional values and openness to modern ideas and innovations

In contrast to Russia, the "United States and its vassals grossly interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states: they organize provocations, coups d’etat, and civil wars. They are using threats, blackmail and pressure to force independent states to submit to their will and live by rules that are foreign to them."
