Hello everyone and welcome to my blog at this hour. In my last post titled IT PAYS TO BE OPEN-MINDED I emphasized on the importance of being open to new ideas and views rather than sticking to the one you have known with the intention of not wanting to consider new ones. Open-mindedness is a characteristics of someone who is willing to learn and when you learn to get new knowledge that will make you a better person. Well, sit back, relax and enjoy all that I have packaged for your reading pleasure.

There are new discoveries, innovations, ideas, etc on a daily basis. The way some things are done in the last five years isn't the same way they are done today and the way it is done today may not be the way it will be done in the next five years. Also, there are people who make researches and discover new ways of doing things on a daily basis. As a businessperson, student, developer or tutor you must be willing to learn the latest trends in your field from time to time This is to say that there are changes that keep happening in all spheres of life on a daily basis. It is important to be open-minded in order not to lose out from these changes that is happening as each day goes by.
In the same vein, we cross path with people with opposing views, beliefs, values, ideas, etc on a daily basis at work, in school, in church, in the neighborhood and it may be helpful to be open-minded in order to be able to have a decent conversation or discussion with them. Speaking with someone who you have different views about a particular topic may be hard if the two of you are not giving room to hear each other out. The conversation will be combative in nature, that is, you'd be preparing your rebuttal in your mind as he or she is speaking and you may even cut the person short and try to impose your own opinions.

Practicing open-mindedness is not easy because over the years as an individual you have accrued your own set of beliefs and values which you cherish so much with all your heart. In most cases when we come across people with a different view we try to share ours with them and make them see the need to adopt ours but we find it difficult to bring down our ego and give a listening ear to theirs just because we don't want to lose our own view that we hold with so much esteem. This is not supposed to be the case. There should be room for considering other people's views.
Well, considering other people's views does not indicate that you must accept or practice it. What it means is that you allow others to express their thoughts, and opinions without any hindrance, then you process all they have said and check if there is anything that is useful for you, your business, your family, your academics, etc. That is the essence of being open-minded. You should not always believe that you know it all. Create room for listening to other people's views about life and juxtapose it with your own view. In some cases you may even have a wrong perception about some things that you need to get rid of all that you have known.

I really wish more people are open-minded when they are having a discussion with friends, colleagues and family. The benefits are numerous as you are exposed to learning new things as well as the opportunity it will present to you. Not only that, you will also have a cordial relationship with people around you in the sense that if you are always rigid and narrow-minded you'd not want others to freely express their mind which may cause chaos or dispute.
