Hair Journey pt 1

I’ve always heard about witches and wizards from the moment I could start comprehending information. But how does that concern the story I’m about to tell you, well you’d be surprised how the supernatural weaves itself into my reality or does it ? Image by freepik

It all started with my hair. Growing up I hated making my hair, now I know most people are not from my home country so let me explain. A typical African hairdo doesn’t last more than a month without redoing or reenforcement, so for those of us in our households without people who knows the intricacies of hair we are dealt with by public hair stylists.

My parents always wanted me to look my best, of course that’s my name right, but these ladies showed my scalp no mercy, and when it was time to take of the hairdo no one was there to assist, I’d stare at myself at the mirror like someone possessed contemplating if I should just cut my hair or not, honestly I was scared.

So I asked Daddy, saying “Daddy I can’t keep making my hair the women in the saloon hand used to give me Kro kro and the hair is paining me” my father then said “do you know why I have never cut your hair, since you where born” ?, I said “no sir”, besides how am I supposed to know am I some sort of psychic. He then said “i’ve never cut your hair because your hair protects you from all the witches in our village, don’t you know if an old lady pinches you she has initiated you but because of your hair you’re safe”.

You should have seen me smiling like a fool, wow, I instantly thought I had super powers. Now I’m not going to impose my faith on anyone but I’ve come to learn that it’s only God that can protect, not hair 😂 in a way I’m still wary of people touching me.

Anyway back to the story. I tried keeping the hair but when I got to primary 3 I was staying with my mum and the pressure of the hair was too much so I used a scissors to cut off a big chunk of my hair and showed my mum, she was so upset, she said my father will be mad at her 😂.
Long story cut short my dad told me to pack my hair from the barbing saloon and I did. I don’t know where that hair is today but it’s probably in a good place.

I have lived this long by the grace of God with and without hair and I still wonder about what my dad said about how an old lady’s pinch can initiate me to witchcraft, what do you think guys can that ever be possible.

Africans and our beliefs...
I guess you can't just tame some of us down with fear of what we don't know

That's true
We are been pulled down by things we aren't even sure it's true but we don't want to disobey just to be on the safer side.
