One thing I love so much about my hometown, Kogi State, Nigeria, is the cool weather we experience throughout the year. Our population is not that dense, and we are surrounded by rocks, which contribute to the high amounts of rain we experience every year.
If I had my way, I would live in my hometown because of the calm and friendly weather conditions. Same thing I loved so much while I was living in Lagos; regardless of how crazy that city can be, rain is one thing that never stops to calm down the most populous city in Nigeria regularly. Thanks to the large body of ocean the city is surrounded with. We do experience rain almost every month of the year, including some January's, when most of the other states no longer see rain, but the sky still smiles at us and pours down its blessings. I never have to worry so much about the hardness of the dry season.
But now that I'm living here in the core northern part of the country, where the dry season is very long and the weather conditions can be very harsh when we are in the dry season. Some jokes that this city is just like a stone walk from hell during the dry season.
For instance, last year, the dry season happened to start in November and end in June this year. The harness of the sun was tiring, to the extent that wearing clothes most times can be inconvenient. I felt so much happiness in my heart when the sky finally smiled at us and sent down the rain. It was such a great relief. When it's raining, I feel a lot more calm, and I sleep better at night. When it's raining, my mood is at its best.
Plants become lively and very beautiful, especially when there are rain droplets 💧 on them. I couldn't just get enough looking at them. Yes, my body does not like too much cold; for that, I have got a thick blanket that always keeps me warm when it's cold. And when I'm outside, my cardigan is always available to keep the cold away, plus hot ginger and honey tea to drive any cold that somehow sneaks into my system. If I could choose a season to stay in, I would choose a rainy season to stay forever, most especially now that I live in the core north. I now love rain more than ever. But then we need all seasons of the year to keep the ecosystem balanced. So I can only try to cope if the weather is hot and we are waiting for the blessings of the sky.
My favorite things I love to do when it rains if I'm at home are to cook a nice meal, eat to my satisfaction, and watch a movie afterward. At other times, I might just like to relax on my couch while I stroll through the hive catching up with my favorite authors.
