You know, life can be really overwhelming sometimes and most times, when we fail to prepare for these times, we get lost somewhere in between that we can even barely recognize ourselves. For example, no matter how much we already know that no one will live forever, we always feel oblivious whenever we loss a loved one like it is the first time it is happening or we are the first to experience sure. For some, they have been able to prepare themselves for different challenges or circumstances that might threaten their happiness.
As most of us know and agree with, having a smile on your face is a choice not something that can just happen except you are just lucky with life (the people) but that is hard to come by for some persons. Naturally, we all go through the ups and downs and at every level, we get to a check point when we will be ask to either park to the side for further checking or to keep going if we meet up the necessary information needed. So, as we journey this life, it is important that we acknowledge these check points and prepare as much as we can for them.
We have a lot of things that can threaten our happiness but one most common one is the loss of a loved one. It always snaps every joy in us knowing that we can’t get to see someone we have loved so dearly again, except the memories we already have with them. For me, I have sadly, been unfortunate to lose a loved one, it was one experience that I wasn’t sure how I was feeling but then I knew I didn’t feel the need to be happy again or even smile. It took me a while to realize that I was hurting myself by staying unhappy for too long.
Losing someone or something special to us is not so easy to let go of but then, dwelling on it for too long and making important decisions in such state can cause us reasons to have even more unhappy days. When you feel hurt about something, it is just right to mourn over it but we should be very conscious to know when it’s time to stop and be happy for your good and they good of others who are still alive that you love and loves you. But then, this is not easy and that is why, personally for me, I have a few things I do when I’m faced with a situation that seem to make me feel sad.
At this point, I want to be grateful for the live of the amazing people in my life and also for my own life. Gratefulness is one way to breed happiness in us, it just knows how to leave that beautiful smile on our faces every now and then. When we have so many things to be grateful about, sadness just automatically hides its ugly head. So whenever I recognize that my happiness is being threatened, I just try to reflect on the things I’m grateful for. It doesn’t necessarily have to be something very extravagant, just having people around me, food on my table and a roof over my head is enough reason to be grateful.
Also, I try to engage in activities rather than staying all day on my own. As the Bible says, an idle man is a devil’s workshop. The more you stay all by yourself doing nothing, the more you overthink about the things that you shouldn’t think about. So in as much as I’m hurt about something, I always try to engage in things that will make me feel productive as that will give me this satisfaction that will just make me feel happy. So acing all my goals and even more, just has a way of leaving a big smile on my face.
So basically, the major things that put a smile on my face when I’m having a bad day is reflecting on the things I’m grateful for and also engaging I’m productive activities.
This is my response to the LOH contest number 2 which says ” What makes you smile when you’re having a bad day?”.
