Are Ghosts Real? || A @LadiesofHive Contest

I can't say I have ever seen a ghost with my own two eyes. I have had sleep paralysis in my teens, I might have woken up from it to see a black shadow sitting on me, but at the same time, it could have been in my head. I may have felt breathing, and a weight of something getting into bed at a hotel, but all of these could be explained away by science I'm sure.

Still, I would like to tackle the second question from the @ladiesofhive, which is

2️⃣ Do you think you’ve ever encountered a ghost?

Through reliable sources like my Dad, Mum, Grandmother and the experience of living with my mentally sick uncle and aunt {for a long time, the family was very sure were possessed). I myself might have some peculiar unearthly feelings and hearings but again, probably could be explained away by science.

So today, I give the science fans a chance to explain these two stories away. Both experienced by my daughter when she was younger.

The first time it happened was when she was about 4'ish/5. We were at my in-laws' old house (they have moved a couple of times since) and she needed to pee. I was in the midst of helping with the cooking and so told her to go to the toilet upstairs because the one downstairs was the squat kind, the one upstairs was a toilet bowl which she was comfortable using.

She looked at me innocently and said "No Mummy, my friend is upstairs. I'm scared to go upstairs."

This is when my SIL's eyes grew wide as she said "You see her too?"

Back then, my daughter referred to all kids as "friend". SIL went on to explain that she too sees a spirit child who stands behind the door facing the corner as if she was being punished. The spirit never moved or disturbed anyone, just stands there and you could only see her back. Judging from her size, the spirit was about 8 to 10 years old.

Now for the second story, my daughter was 12 and we were visiting relatives in Singapore. We usually rough it at husband's cousin's place and would just all sleep in the hall, on the floor. There were 8 of us that night.

The weather was hot and we had left the windows open. The kids were all sleeping facing the window, I was sleeping at their feet with my youngest, the hubs was sleeping on the sofa beside me which was under the window.

I was fast asleep when suddenly my daughter was shaking my feet (our sleeping positions were such that her feet and my feet could be touching each other at a 90° angle), her head held low as if trying not to look at the window. her voice trembling she asked "Mummy, did I watch a movie with a lady dressed in white with long hair, last night?"

The chills ran down my spine because Singapore has many stories of the Pontianak.

The Pontianak is often depicted as a long-haired woman dressed in white, and it represents local variations of a vampire

And I am not in the habit of watching horror movies with the kids when they were younger, and the way she was asking me I could tell she was very scared.

I immediately made some space for her to sleep beside me, told her it was just a dream. No, I did not look up at the window to see why she was trying so hard not to look in that direction but must have said all kinds of prayers until we fell asleep.

The next day, she was very sick and while others went visiting family, I stayed at home with her.

Surprisingly, she remembers nothing of that day including being very sick the next. It has completely vanished from her memory bank.

And that would be my ghost experiences through my daughter... unless you count this one which I wrote here on the blockchain in April 2018. Let me just share the bit that you really want to read... We were in another state for my son's swim meet and here's the rest...

And that's 3 stories which I am sure have very logical answers ;p. Ladies, would you come to share your experience if you have ever had these encounters? I would love to read them ;D Find out more HERE.

Brrrrrrrr. Cold shivers done my spine.🥶 👻

haha, I still have questions
Are you sharing any with us? Come, please do ;D

Yes, will do this week. My ghosts inhabit my stories and make me do all kinds of weird fiction! Haha 🤗

wow! 😱 These stories managed to scare me😳I imagine how terrible
it must have been for your daughter to see the boy standing in the corner
and even more so the experience of the twelve years.I'm glad you managed
to erase it from your head! jejej It would be chilling to remember because they
say "to remember is to live twice"
Greetings and blessings @kaerpediem!🌸

I confess, I scared myself writing it haha

Thank you @yohanys :D

Spooky! I have heard people talk about seeing ghosts but I don't think I have or maybe I have and pretend not to have seen it. 😆 I always do that when I see weird things!

Do I believe in ghosts? Yes, they exist.

Your daughter is brave and her brain probably dealt with the unexpected sight like trauma by hiding the memory away.

She is currently living on her own in at the Uni - she doesn't have a roommate yet
Good thing she doesn't remember things like this ;p

What great stories! As a science-minded skeptic, I have no explanations for ghost sightings, the weight on the bed, the Pontianak of Singapore (i.e., a LOT of natives have spotted the same white vampire/ghost). My sister has experienced the "ghost child" crawling into her bed at night to sleep beside her, but in the morning, her own child never left her own bed, and there is no trace of the ghost. This, from my sister - who said a previous owner of the home later told her she'd experienced it too.

If ever anyone was open to signs from The Other Side, it would be me. Never do I experience the paranormal. An algorithm, a fumble of the cell phone, may account for the apparent message from my sister during the week after she died. I may never get to "know."

On the bright side, no harm seems to have resulted (aside from your daughter feeling sick for a day).
Which reminds me: I felt sick for a WEEK at age 7 or 8, after a vivid nightmare that came with a sword fight and a box of heads rolling into the shrubberies where I hid with my little sister, and the heads of our two oldest sister rolled into our hiding space. Half a century later, both those sisters were dead....

I've written about the nightmare starring our middle sister. She is now battling Stage 4 Stomach Cancer, and the prognosis looks very dire, very hopeless, though we have not abandoned hope. Miracles still happen, right? (And no, I don't see the dreams as prophetic - mercifully, many many other nightmares NEVER CAME TO PASS, or my mom and middle sister would have perished in a bonfire, and our son would have drowned or died a dozen other ways).

I guess if you are one to see it as ghostly it would be

Talking about algorithms - when Mum passed, and a couple of nights later, the family was sitting around reminiscing and talking about her. And suddenly, my Siri goes _ "I'm listening".
So random, and we were like huh? I am sure some word must have triggered it, a word that had never triggered it before or after since ...

Please, if you ever encounter something that makes sense (to a skeptic) you have to share and tag me

LOVE the story of that unexpected, random "I'm listening" from Siri at that time! How I'd love to believe your mom's spirit was able to access tech to let you know she's still with you.

My cell phone did something that has never happened before or since, even though I finally learned HOW to call up that special text and a canned reply, but to have accidentally called it up myself while reading a text message in a parking lot is just too improbable.

I blogged about it here Angels "simply use what's available" - even our cell phones, or landscape rocks and here:

Our youngest sister sees the rare white squirrel and countless little signs that Lori is still near us. I sooo want to believe in life after death and our lost loved ones reuniting with us one day!

The chills went through my spine too reading the second story. Her forgetfulness may be due to selective amnesia. It's a psychological condition in which the sufferer forgets about the dreadful incident as if it never existed.
Since may have explanations but all the times science doesn't explain everything and gives the reason that the thing is creation of our mind. I believe things do exist. They may not be exactly as the superstitious beliefs. They may be something else.

Yes, when nothing else makes sense - it's all in your head
Though I might prefer that than something in my bed - I actually once had something get in my bed - and some say I must have fallen asleep and dreaming but I had just got into bed so ... I don't know ;p

There occurred such an incident recently at my home. I would be writing about it

Wow a ghost boy looking to a corner as punished is very creepy and sad, i think about how his soul is condemned to eternity to be punished, if there is really a spirit there, he should be put on freedom someway.

Kids usually watch a lot things adults can't see, and if difficult to realize if is about their imagination or something real.

I believe she believed that she saw it ...

Set it free, I never asked my SIL about it after that time
I also don't bring it up because she doesn't like talking about it...

Hmmmm... definitely ghost @kaerpediem!
Forget what science has to say, 😁 hahaha!
Thanks for sharing!
Good luck with the contest.

LOL
No no gotta hang on to some science - I am scared of being scared hahaha

Oh my gosh. Did your SIL and child see the child in the corner after that day as well? I would be freaked out even if she doesn't say anything, it would freak me out for sure! But I bet your SIL was glad someone else also saw her as she may have thought she was losing her mind?

That story with the window gave me chills reading it. Poor child probably blocked that out of the memory as it was a traumatic experience.

The last one would seriously freak me out as well. The room being all cold and then wet, wonder what that's related to? Cold is a very known thing, but stuff getting wet, I never heard it before. Glad you guys went to the other room, even though the frame first fell on your child, brrr.. The door locking afterwards feels like the spirit(s) saying this is our room, you are not welcome. Which makes me think it would have been a shitty night (scary for sure0. The housekeepers must know this though, it's not a one night thing, I assume.

Thanks for sharing, you got me into the scary vibes now haha

I did not ask because ... ok, I am scared if I keep talking about it, it will show up. Even writing this I was feeling a little creepy haha

The last story - for everything that kept happening, we explained it away until the picture fell - like so random.
And if the hotel knew and still gave us the room, that's nasty.

But yeah, that's given me some stories to share I suppose :D

yeah those stories are at least worth sharing!

I believe many hotel rooms are haunted, how can they not be, especially in old buildings where people died, there must be bad spirits around too. And I don't believe these hoteliers will just cut their income with a % because people may experience bad stuff. It's business after all. Until something really bad happens they can just ignore it or say people are crazy lol..

I can imagine you feel that you may manifest something that way, maybe indeed don't ask :)

Ask not, see not!!
LOL

haha, ssstttt

Wow! These are interesting real life stories. I feel your daughter experiences are probably a thing of the mind or might actually be REAL. This is an interesting topic, I would have loved to write about and I'd tell you why...

I also think i have seen ghosts before, I use the word "Think" because I can't really remember what happened, all I knew was that my mom told me i did complain every night that i was seeing things.

I come from a very strong Christian family, so we are quick to discard these things are they are thought to be evil and can affect one's spirituality.

But now, I've grown differently (still growing) , I have started to doubt these things, If i continue like this, I'd probably write next year that i don't believe in ghosts. But for now, I can't still shake the fact that they might just be real.

Thanks for sharing! I think I should pay more attention to the prompts, they seem quite interesting.

I'm not scared of Ghosts!!!

This reply is worthy of being an entire post that stands alone - thank you @samostically!

I can relate to this half and half :D

It's a good prompt. I guess everyone has their opinions. Thanks for sharing and also your support. Good morning!
