Some women cut their hair, I just spring clean!! I started this year all gung-ho to be more enthusiastic about life, but the "meh" has spilt over from last year, so I am decluttering now in the hopes of feeling a little lighter.
What's funny is that I have been decluttering quite a number of times over the last five years or so, and if you scroll down my Hive page, you'll see decluttering sprees all over. And still, I have so many things that just hang out in all the nooks and crannies.
Every time I start, I am ready to do a major Marie Kondo but within hours, I end up changing their spot because I am not ready to get rid of them just yet.
But this year, there are two things I really need to sort out which will clear a lot of space. The fabric I have been collecting since the early 2000s will get the #sewinspired treatment haha. I also have a tonne of CDs I have collected over the years since the 90s.
In the early years, music labels would give DJs their promotional CDs to play, this is when DJs produced their own shows. Then the 2000s, the DJs did not pick their own music to play anymore, the music was uploaded into the computers by the music exec (and that's about when I became a music exec and the labels would give the station a CD and the music exec one too) and we used a software called the RCS.
Towards the tail end, it all became just mp3's, first on thumbdrives than just emailed over to upload into the RCS.
Now back to the CDs, I have at least 3000 CDs (I think more). Before the kids, I displayed them on the wall, they were my babies. But when we moved to a smaller house, and the kids started coming, I did not have space to store them, so removed all the plastic covers, and used CD albums to save space.
At that point, I didn't think CDs would go out of style. I thought I'd pass my treasures on to the kids but now I can safely say, the kids aren't interested, at least not every single one. And to be honest, there are some rubbish ones too.
Could they one day fetch a nice price like vinyl, I am not sure, even so, most of them don't even have the plastic covers anymore...
So, I have decided I am going to spend some time going through the CDs and keeping the few that I want and let the rest go. I don't have a CD player but someone just promised to lend me one for a couple of months, so be ready for some music posts ;p
ps: I was thinking of using the CDs for a feature wall. I was just talking to the hubs about pasting the CDs and then painting over with epoxy or something like it. Any ideas?see, what I mean... again looking to just change the spot. But it could actually work :D
