About being prepared

Is it ever enough?

Can we really foresee everything and be prepared about all possible situations?

I think not, but we can work on being at least prepared for unexpected situations that we could predict.

As you know I was planning a trip for a few weeks and then it all went upside down. I was traveling the day of the Crowdstrike incident that caused thousands of flights to be canceled. So was my trip and my dreams and my mood for the day.

What I was able to predict:

  • Money: I tried to have enough money both in a couple of different cards, in apple pay and in cash. In case cards would not work, I would have cash with me.
(bonus: I even learnt how to connect and use apple pay, haha - believe it or not, I did not know how to do it until recently)
  • Clothes: I brought summer clothes with me but also a few warmer ones, just in case. And I did need them for the inside of the airport and the airplane.
  • Gifts: I had taken a few gifts for the people I would meet, but I ended up giving most of them to the people who helped me out.
  • Bottles for travel: I bought a travel package with bottles up to 100 ml (You are not allowed to travel with more than that)
  • I even printed out my ticket & boarding pass in case my internet did not work!
  • Power Bank: I had two power banks with me, a fully charged telephone and had found out where power outlets were.

What I was not able to predict

  • The international chaos that happened all across airports
  • The fact that I may have had to stay overnight(s) at a hotel. In that case I would need to have a bit more money (or someone to send me just in case)
  • I had two transit flights booked, but they were in different airports. So, if any bad luck happened (that it did), I would be stuck in the first airport, while my return flight would go from another airport.
  • Internet access. It is important to check the details of the internet. The airport I was provided 4 hours of free access, but I had a 7 hour waiting + a cancelled flight with another 6 hours waiting. So, I had to buy extra time (which was not easy at the time)

I think that now I am more prepared for anything that comes my way, but I dont think I am prepared for another trip yet.

Unless I win a trip to Croatia for the upcoming Hive Fest! haha

If you have any more tips to share, please do!!

Thanks for your support!

No matter how spiritual we can be, we cannot see or be aware of the things that are about to happen
Well, we just have to be strong in whatever situation we find ourselves and be able to chest it

Wow that would be awesome.

Prepare for the unexpected can be underrated, most of the unforeseen circumstances are things we didn't imagine could happen although on hindsight it kind of looked obvious :)

We don’t always want to predict the bad things until it happens. Most times, we know those things will happen very we always ignore them because we don’t want to accept the fact that they will happen

This goes to say that no matter how prepared we are, unforeseen circumstances can pop out of nowhere.

No matter how prepared we are unexpected events may reach us any time. And I think no unexpected thing is predictable because it was predictable it cannot be regarded as unexpected.

Well, passing through such situations in life gives us the wisdom and make us able to give good advice to others.

I hear airports are worst hit even up here in Canada, all of YVR Vancouver airport is at a total standstill and they are still backlogged today. We're far too dependent on technology when it goes wrong.

I'm sorry your trip was affected by that! There is no way anyone could plan for that type of situation unfortunately. I do hope you get to go for your trip soon and also hope you were able to get some or all of the money back on the flights; it certainly wasn't your fault and the airplane companies should do the right thing.

Take care and have a lovely day!
