Hey friends, the month of March has begun and with it many events in honor of women, on the island of Margarita where I live we can find very close to the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption a beautiful mural alluding to some women who stand out for their role in Venezuelan history for their heroism and cultural contributions. It is very pleasing to see how through art women are valued, it can be seen that the mural has suffered some deterioration due to environmental factors, it would be nice if the competent entities would recover it through proper maintenance, but just to see the faces of these emblematic women painted for all to see is nice.

No doubt that seeing reflected in this art a native woman of the municipality where I live filled me with pride, Mrs. Lourdes Marin Brito native of the community of Loma de Guerra is an emblematic character in the Municipality Antolin del Campo, represents the humility, the gentilicio and the courage of this hardworking Margarita woman who is a mother, aunt, grandmother, who is always ready to support others and who shows above all a smile, that optimism that characterizes her. The flowers on her head are representative of this popular woman of my municipality, that striking lip color that shows the care of her image, the feminine coquetry.

Undoubtedly the Venezuelan heroine Luisa Caceres de Arismendi, Caracas born and Margarita at heart is an emblematic character and very appreciated by the people of Margarita, thanks to her and her sacrifice during the struggle for independence, soldiers like her husband Juan Bautista Arismendi were able to achieve the independence of Margarita Island. There have been many tributes to her, especially in the city of La Asuncion where in colonial times she was imprisoned in the Castillo San Carlos de Borromeo, pregnant, she lost her baby because of mistreatment but never betrayed her husband and her homeland.

Venezuelan women during colonial times, in the struggle for independence, played a fundamental role in helping the wounded, preparing food for the patriots who fought on the battlefield and even participated in combat. It called my attention that one of the images of the mural smoked a tobacco and this is a habit of the matrons of the time even still seen in old women of the villages of the island, particularly in fishing villages, seeing this image evokes in me old women of my village telling an anecdote between puffs of smoke in the portals of the village.

Margarita's women have indigenous Guaiquerí roots, but the colonization process gave way to the mixture with Spaniards and African slaves, giving rise to miscegenation; it is common to see this type of tanned skin, "café con leche" as we call it here. Although the straight hair of the indigenous people prevails, it is also common to see the curly hair inherited from our African ancestors. Woman" is a beautiful word that evokes love, motherhood, struggle, humility, courage.

Hello, yes, a beautiful work that shows how our women have had a fundamental role in the history of the country and their legacy prevails.

Wonderful to see a wall honouring the history in their achievements to a community.

What a work of art that would be pleasing to see by any female... These stuffs always put a smile on my face.

Thanks for sharing it with us at ladies of Hive ❤️

I agree, it is very nice to visit a place and enjoy this tribute to women, I would just like the government entities are devoted to the maintenance so that visitors can appreciate them.

Yeah, it would be nice if they should do that
