I always look forward to ladies of hive weekly contest and its here already, so I'm gladly making my entry as always. On this week's contest, I'll be writing on the second topic below:
What were your favorite foods as a child? Do you still enjoy them now?
As a child I wasn't a foodie, but at least I still ate compared to most kids that are forced to. I learnt to eat everything I was served, one of the rules was that you must finish your lunch packed in the lunch pack before you return home. You dare not eat a part and throw the rest a way, my mum would always figure you did. Another is to always finish your food before eating the protein that came with it.
My favorite food as a kid was fried rice with chicken and fried plantain. Fried rice is a very common dish which almost everyone basically knows how to cook, although it would always differ based on the different recipes used.
My mum makes it just the way me and my siblings love it, the simple and tasty way that you'll literally eat and ask for more. It's meal we make for any special occasion at all, we don't even need to think twice cause the answer is there.
I know home made food always tastes heavenly compared to the ones I eat out, I've checked and over time I've confirmed my doubt. Most restaurants don't even cook fried rice well, it's either it's over spiced or it's half cooked as though it was just parboiled. This made me to go with jollof rice most times I eat out, as I wouldn't want one bad me change my choice of a favorite meal.
Now as an adult, my love for it never change and that made me draw closer to the kitchen while my mum made it to learn how to do so properly. I learnt to and one certain Christmas day, mum said I'll do the cooking alone with no supervision. I saw as a big work ofcourse making a full pot of rice that family and visitors would take on that special day, but as expected I blew her mind.
I single handedly made the meal with no help, everyone ate to their satisfaction dropping lots of compliments. While I served my dad I watched him eat and after he finished the meal he said "You cook just like your mum, I'm proud of you". My cheeks became so red for blushing the whole day, I was super proud of me for making such a sumptuous delicacy.
So it reminded my favorite, not just because of the sweet and amazing taste buy as well it's properly garnished with veggies making it highly nutritious too. It's a balanced diet, a whole meal and more especially when eaten with a very creamy salad.
So tell me why wouldn't you just love this meal? All meals in the picture are my images and were prepared by me, on a good day I'll give my recipe for cooking fried rice.
I hereby nominate @deraaa to join the contest.
