"If you try to control everything and then worry about the things you can't control, you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of frustration and misery". – Unknown
Growing up with so many expectations, I faced problems throughout life. I usually try to control things the way I want, yet I end up disappointed.
All of us are experiencing unparalleled issues and change.
We all have terrible days, face frustration, grief, and change, and we all feel unhappy, and anxious at certain times in our lives. Yet developing resilience can help us maintain a good attitude, deal with an unknown future with a lesser fear, and fight even on the most challenging days.
Sometimes dealing with challenges can be overwhelming.
The process of accepting the situation you are in is not easy at all. Here are some of the ways to keep control amidst difficult moments.
Focus on things within your control
This is one of the bullets. Focusing on the things within my control. I always allow myself to breathe and stop worrying about it. Instead, I focus on the actions that I can take.
I understand this because I know all too well about wanting to control the uncontrollable. But that’s just it, control itself is not the problem. Where I run into trouble is failing to realize what I can and can’t control.
Try to reach out to other
Sometimes, they do not have the answers to my problems, but the fact they spend time listening without any judgment, their smile, their hugs – it can make all the difference.
We can not stand alone! Reaching out to family and friends matters the most during the difficult time of our lives. To lessen the heaviness I make sure that I have spent time with them. It helps me boost my mood and ease my stress. I can draw strength and build resilience from the people around me.
The authentic ones!
Look for a purpose and meaning
We all have different scenarios of various crises and sufferings in our lives and we all have different ways of experiencing the purpose and meaning to it.
Back then, I was easily overwhelmed with various circumstances. But whatever it is, it doesn’t have to define me. I pursue things that add satisfaction to my life.
Give help to other people, -- it’s common to feel helpless but by helping others I gain that sense of control as I find my purpose in my life. Or it could be indulging in hobbies and interests—it also helps me to regain my strength and satisfaction.
Stay motivated
My heart was filled with joy as I celebrated my small wins. And it helps me to be motivated. It was not a big achievement but you know it is part of the small step to regain what’s lost. Taking time to acknowledge such small things can radiate and boost my mood.
And the most important – invest, love, and be kind to yourself. It is a must!
Seek God in all that you do.
Seeking God means acknowledging his presence in my life. I acknowledge Him in all my actions, and decisions, seek His blessing in my progress, and am willing to give back to Him. The source of my calmness amidst the chaos.
Accepting change is accepting challenges. But looking back on my past where I surpass all uncertainties will help me accept the current situation I am in.
We have no control over how each day unfolds, but we can choose how we fall into it. Life is uncertain and let us learn to make modifications to match the situation we have.
We do not know what lies behind these failures and the tendency is that we want to control everything. I realized I was setting myself up for a life of frustration and misery.
Only when I look in the mirror I realize that the only thing controllable I have is myself. I have the power to control who I am, particularly the way I think, feel, and the way I act.
