This week @LadiesofHive - Contest #150 questions are:
1️⃣ Tell us about a historical place in your city. Why do you like that place? Add multiple photos — your own, or copyright-free, please!
~ 𝐀𝐍𝐃 / 𝐎𝐑 ~
2️⃣ With which woman in the history of your country do you identify, and why?
I will like to answer the first question, Historic Place of Mumbai city.
For any tourist who visits Mumbai, Gateway of India is a must visit place. It is like the Arc de Triomphe of paris. I mean in looks, not in terms of significance, because both were built with a very different meaning. One was built to honor the ones who died in the war which is the Paris one, and the Mumbai one was built as a welcome point to the city.

During the British rule in India, in the year 1911 when King George V and Queen Mary were to visit India, at that time to commemorate their landing on the Indian soil the plan was laid to build the Gate in their honor and to be named as "Gateway of India". You will see a touch of the British architecture in this monument. In those times many such other monuments and buildings were also built, which today all stand as heritage structures of the city. One such other building is the Victoria Terminus station which I had shared the pictures some time back.
King George V and Queen Mary had travelled to India to celebrate their coronation as emperor and empress of India of that time, the ceremony happened in Delhi city which is far from Mumbai, but Mumbai was their landing point. It was a very landmark moment for the Britishers since King George was the first British monarch to travel to India in the 300 years of their presence in the Country which was in the early 1600 and they had then set up the East India Company. During the celebrations in Delhi, the King announced Delhi city as the capital city of India and till date it remains the same.

The Construction of the monument started in the year 1914 and got completed in 1924. It was designed by a Scottish architect George Wittet. Later on, he went on to design many other buildings. Gateway of India was grand and special, it became the ceremonial entrance to India for the Governors and Viceroys visiting the Country. The charm of this place is enhanced with The Hotel Taj which was built by the Tata group in 1903 and then just opposite to the building the Gateway of India was built.

In the recent times also, this place is flocked with people, there are ferries that start from here going to small islands away from Mumbai city. There are leisure boat trips also that happen from here, and it is also a docking point for individual yacht owners. Till a decade back we could visit the Gate from very nearby, but after the 9/11 Taj attack there is lot of cordoning done in this area and now you cannot get very close to the Gate, there is a boundary. Things change with time.
I hope you all enjoyed this historic monument of my city.
