Hola queridas damas.

Hello dear ladies.

In this opportunity the weekly contest, gives us the space to talk about such an important resource as water, making us this approach:

Water is life and it is also a non-renewable resource. There are countries where access to water is very limited, while in others it is wasted. Tell us to what extent you are aware of this future problem (water scarcity) and how you manage this valuable resource.

Without water we cannot live, in fact almost everything we do is water-based. We must consume water so that our body can function properly and be healthy, we must cook with water, fruits and vegetables are grown and processed with water, animals need water to live, these are just a few of the uses we give to water on a daily basis.

In many occasions we think that water will be an eternal resource and therefore we are not half as careful as we should be when we refer to this vital liquid.

I always think of the people who suffer so much for a drop of water and there are homes where a faucet can last for hours and no one worries about turning it off.

We know that water is a non-renewable resource, but it can be a reusable resource.

How can we reuse water?

Living here in the Colombian Pacific, I realize the great need that many households have when it comes to water. But I have also noticed all the measures they take so that their lives can function normally even with this lack of potable liquid.

I currently live in a community where water arrives daily, during many hours of the day and we can carry out our normal activities, we only store a little for the hours when we will not have service, but it is not something extreme.

Last year I lived in a place where the water service did not arrive even once a day. Neighbors with enough financial freedom, built their homes with below ground storage tanks, which were filled with water dispenser trucks, and then they could use this service normally.

But in homes like the one my partner and I lived in, it was much more difficult.

And this is where the idea of reusable water comes from, a method that is very common in this city.

IMG_20230605_203937.png

In the house where we lived, we had two storage tanks, in order to cover more liters of water. In one of the tanks were connected pipes coming from the roof of the house, which collected the rainwater through channels on the edge of the roof. The water fell into one of the tanks, and when it reached a considerable amount of water, a turbine was turned on to move the water to the upper tank; it is worth mentioning that this turbine had certain filters to prevent debris such as dry leaves or sediments such as dirt from passing through the water.

After the water was in the upper tank, we could open the faucets and the water would come out of them without any problem.

I must say that this water coming from the roof was not used for consumption, but we could reuse the rainwater for household chores.

When we talked about consumption, every time we went to the supermarket we had to buy packages of water, to be able to prepare food, juices or simply to have drinking water to drink.

That experience made me think about the fact that it is a strategy that could be applied worldwide, so we would use drinking water only for cooking or direct consumption, which would be a huge help for the planet, because the liquid that we would use the most is the one that is produced naturally through the water cycle. This would also reduce the expenditure of energy and chemicals when treating the water so that it can be consumed.

Back home, we used to do this too. We would collect rainwater just for chores, then buy filtered water for consumption. Your suggestion is great. If we could adopt this method, it would help greatly in conserving and sustaining the planet.

@kei2 I'm glad they implemented that idea as well. Yes, I agree, I think it would be a very good way to help the planet.

Great read on one of the most important issues, thanks

@beckyonweb Thank you very much for reading.

You have developed a very wise plan for collecting and using the rainwater, what you do get of it, and that helps; it is not easy for a lot of people of the world when they have to boil water for consumption because they have toxic or dirty water to drink, and in some cases non-drinkable at all.
Good contest post.

@jamerussell Thank you very much for reading and commenting.

Yes, there are many people who have a more difficult situation if we refer to water quality; that is something of utmost importance.

Greetings.

Understanding what it is like living daily without a reliable continuous and potable water supply makes me appreciate what I have living in a first world country. I have prepared in event such services come to a sudden stop but with also the mindset to adapt.
Thanks for sharing @orion.art

It never hurts to have reserves.

Thanks for reading. @kerrislravenhill
