Food is life, and everyone loves food, including myself. As much as I love to eat, I don't just go for anyhow food but ones that are healthy and nourishing to the body. We were taught 6 classes of food when I was very young and how they are balanced diet when combined together in the right proportion. Though the classes of food weren't ones we practiced but we still understood how eating food that contains the six classes of food benefits our bodies and makes us stay healthy.
As I grew older, I started being cautious of my food intake and making sure I resisted junks/snacks that add no value to my body system. Before, I did eat 3 times a day with the division; breakfast, lunch and dinner, but along the line, I stopped and made it twice a day. Sometimes, I only once a day, and that is when I eat my first food very late during the day, just like yesterday. I didn't eat before going to church and I don't do that until I'm back. By the time I got home, I was tired and slept. Then I woke up and prepared fried spaghetti and that was what I ate all through.
I consume food strictly made by me except on days when I am not in the mood to step into the kitchen but want something different from my cooking. I also eat processed food like garri, oatmeal, custard, etc, and these are mostly taken as snacks for me because I don't consider them as real food. 😅
When it comes to food portion or size, I love to eat too much in one sitting, and it would take hours to eat another. If my stomach isn't rumbling, I don't take anything into it. I am mindful of how I eat and what I eat. This is more reason I prefer to cook my food than let someone do that, except when I go visiting, and this doesn't happen all the time because I try to control my appetite when outside unless you are someone I know so closely. This is why I tend to eat before leaving home, so it would serve as an excuse not to eat at someone's place. No one wants to feed you when you are already filled unless they are ready to carry you home when you are extra full.
When people see the portion of my meal, they exclaim that I eat too much, but the truth is, though I eat a lot, it could be the only food I will be eating throughout the day as I need to be drinking water to make me full.
I don't eat early; this is because I tend to be unproductive for that day. Once I eat, I retire to bed immediately no matter the time of the day. So, my principle and eating habit is to finish my work first, then eat. Even if I needed to sleep for the whole day, I would be satisfied with doing my work and becoming productive. So, my time of eating comes within 11 am upward, and most times, when I'm too engrossed in my work, I forget to eat until I realise I haven't tasted anything, even water at times.
My dinner is always at 7pm and at worst, 8pm and nothing after that again. I don't take heavy or solid meals at night but something light. I also love to eat indoors and am not like some people who don't mind eating in public, except I eat out at restaurants, and most times, I prefer buying takeaways to come and devour at home. Some people feel so confident eating while walking, which I find unhealthy. Even if it's eating snacks, I make sure to get home first.
When it comes to eating in the same bowl with someone, I don't like it. I prefer eating separately. My ex-boyfriend complained about this a lot, but I don't mind. I would tell him how I prefer eating on my own than with someone. The last time my aunt tried such, she decided never to join hands with me on the same plate because I eat as fast as a squirrel. Even before she could take 2 spoons, I already had taken more than 10.
But the only time I eat fast is when I am too stressed and hungry. There are times I starve myself to the extent that worms in my stomach start pinching me and making me feel I'm too unkind and selfish. This is when I rush my meal like there's no tomorrow. Have you ever been so hungry to the extent that even while filling your stomach, you still feel those pangs of hunger pulling your intestines? This is when I tend to rush and not mind who is around until I'm fully satisfied.
When it comes to eating what I crave, I only go for something healthy and not junk. I close my eyes when it's junk or some kind of snacks I'm craving, except in some rare cases, I want to go against my principle just for that day and satisfy my cravings. Anything other than that, I am out.
